Whats Under The Black Cap On The Base Of The Handle Bars?

I was wondering what was under the black cap on the base of the handle bars? I really didn't pay any attention to it until my hand rubbed against it today? :blush:

This is what I put in the hole...... It's a powerLet female socket, I ran the power wire though the steering stem to the battery(with it being fused/relayed on the way. Some peps use the hole to put a ball mount to hold things like cameras/gps's/etc.

I inserted a push button switch that is connected to a mini garage door opener hidden under a fairing. Here's a pic from when all the wiring was being done...

Nice setup. :fing02: Is it as easy as risking the wrath of God and lifting the little black cap to install the Powerlet?

I am Very close to springing for a GPS and that setup looks perfect. Can you fill me in on the details of it?

You do have the actually wire the outlet, or else it's just like a bigger cap. ;)
Yes, it's pretty easy...there are lots of threads and tips here about adding one, including the recommended relay.

It keeps the magic dust in your bike. I hear if you remove it or mod it your front CCT will go out........
Im really wishing I never looked to see what was under it..

Most gps's hook up the same way, mine has a base/dock that is a quick release set up. but I would suggest you look into other gps's, as the TomTom seems to be more limiting with what it can do compared to the other ones.
There's alot of info in here to help you decide.
As far as how it's wired, I'd see if "Tightwad" can help you with how. He also makes and sells all the elec. stuff at a good deal. basic's, it's a PowerLet plug that runs to my battery and is fused and relayed.

I love the ingenuity of VFR owners. Garage Door button, Powerlet Port, I even had a voltmeter mounted on mine for awhile. I wonder how many different parts of a bike you would have to see until you could figure out the owner...kind of like how a paleontologist can tell you what a dinosaur ate, and how big it was, all by 3 bone fragments and a fossilized toenail.

What type/brand of GPS mount is that? I really like its location / attachment.

It's like the one on the left side of your rear wheel axle. Whenever there's a hole, someone will always want to fill it up, or cover it.

ps - those black caps make great bolt covers/plugs for the VF700/750F frames! (especially if you've powdercoated it satin black! :biggrin: )
