Vtec

The reason I ask/say this is I pulled up behind a GMC pick-up the other day, and it had a VTEC emblem on the tailgate. What is GM's version of VTEC?

This is a common trend with "ricers" who want to make their vehicles look cool. I guess this one couldn't afford an import. :rolleyes:

A 6th gen in the pick up bed!!!

GM has Vortec Motors... thats the only thing that I can think of other than they are a wannabe :goofy:

Are you sure it didn't say Vortec?

Nope - it said VTEC. Wish I had my camera handy. I'll keep a look out for it. I know they have the "Vortec" thingie.

I know that the miata had a vtec at one time,I would think the line for the vtec is rather short. :biggrin:

I know it was a staged interview but I do have two comments:

1. Who is the VTEC rep for the north GA area?

2. My opinion of OSU just dropped below that of UGA.

Many manufacturers now have similar systems that provides variable valve actuation (either in amount of valve lift or additional valves actuating, as in the VFR) My Toyota's 2.4 litre engine has a aystem called VVTi which I think is similar to Honda's VTEC. I also remember the Japan/euro model of the Suzuki Bandit 400 in the 90's having some sort of variable valve control system too, so the variable valve actuation and timing technology had spread outside of Honda a long time ago already.
Actually, it seems that many manufacturers have been designing/installing their own systems mostly transparently. It seems that only Honda might still be making a big deal about them these days.

Mazda's Miata (and perhaps other cars) has had a form of variable valve timing since 2001.
