The search for luggage racks continues...A local wrecking yard has a CBR1100xx with a full set of Givi racks, and I was wondering if anyone here knew if adaptation to my 3rd gen was straightforward. I can drill holes in sheet metal, bend things, and do a bit of brazing, but would really like to avoid complicated fabrication as I'd like to have the bags on this summer.
Has anyone tried this? With what success?
Alternatively, does anyone have side case racks they're not using anymore for a 3rd gen VFR?
When I had my 90 VFR I adapted a set of Givi racks from the '98-'01 VFR, the PL166 I believe. I then had a set of Hondaline soft bags that I inserted some plexiglass panels fitted into the bags that made them stiffer. The only thing I had to do was to make a small bracket, that bolted to the bracket under the seat for the passenger handles, and then to the GIVI racks. Don't think I have any pictures of that setup.
When you say "a full set of Givi racks", I am assuming it is a Wingrack.
If memory serves me correctly, the Givi fitment kit you need for a 3rd gen is Y143. It is a set of brackets that attach the Givi Wingrack to the 3rd gen. I did the same as you are doing. I found a used Wingrack and ordered the fitment kit from Givi.

Sadly, Givi no longer produces a fitment kit for the 3rd gen VFR, so I'm stuck adapting something else. Which I guess is possible, but may take some doing.
I'm hoping that the CBR1100xx subframe is similar enough that it'd be easy to adapt, and hoping someone has tried this operation.
One can ADAPT virtually any case mount to the 3rd gen, with a little time and resourcefulness.
There are already frame bosses with threaded holes for upper mounts. The foot pegs mounts for the rear have holes for such things. I used the frankenbolt for my 3rd point, but you can also cross bolts to each other to further stableness.
I personally adapted the bags from a mid year BMW, ala Krauser, using 1/8" X 1" wide SS straping. Mounts bolt on and off, bags lock on the key.

For sure. The question is: Will I have to fabricate a whole fitment kit, or can I do it with a couple of pieces of bent sheet metal? Or is the fitment kit nothing more than a couple of pieces of ben sheet metal?
