Is there any length of time the VTEC (7+rpm) can be run? I kick it in often, but usually only for short bursts. I'm fairly new to sport bikes and am just kind of wondering how long a guy can run it with the warp drive engaged?

Like Baileyrock say's...... Think of it this way, if you had a 4-banger that didn't have the V-Tec it would run on all 4 valves 24/7 , except Mother's Day....

BR and Monk are right, of course - there is no limit to running the bike at 7k+ rpm. You won't hurt the bike by running in VTEC mode for prolonged periods, but your bike will run hotter. Again tho, no biggie. VFRs tend to run hot anyway.
Practically, however, unless you're in a long stretch of twisties where you're running in lower gears at higher rpms, there's no need to run that far up the tach for long periods of time.

Idk, I happened to notice today that 8k seems to be my sweet spot for moving around moderately heavy traffic which likes to brake check. Can't figure it out, but the cabs and livery cars are always stabbing at their brakes...
That's what I was hoping to hear! The last bike I owned was a '72 Moto Guzzi 750 Ambassador, so its been awhile between bikes (like about 25 yrs), and if memory serves the Guzzi might have even red lined at 7k?, so to me anyway, this thing seems like it was screaming at those rpm's. I kind of thought it could take it, but really didn't know and wanted to be sure before I started winding it up for longer periods of time. Thanks for the replies. :)

Thanks for the replies. :)I know some people might disagree because they like to hear the sound that comes with riding, but I find it more exceptable to use the upper rpm's as long as I have ear plugs.... My first real road bike was a '72 750 Beemer, so let'er rip... :cool:

Weather finally turned in my favor and I got the chance to get out and "let'er rip" for extended periods of time... gota tell you, that was some big fun. Still sounds like its screaming to me, but I'm pretty sure I get use to it :biggrin:. Felt like it was kind of a dumb question, but I honestly didn't know. Anyway, with that its vrooom... vroooom :wheel:
