I would imagine this has been asked more than once before but I did not find the post

I am going to be getting a vfr at the earliest opportunity and was pretty set on finding an 06 model as from what I had gathered, this was the first model year of the 6th gen that didn't have any sort of electrical gremlins or recalls. Is that correct? If the previous owner of say an 04 or 05 had the recall work done would I be essentially in as good as shape (reliability wise) as a similar condition 06 model? Any other electrical items besides recall work that should be considered when looking at a pre-06 model?

I appreciate any advice on this topic and again sorry for being the newb with the same old question.

Starting in '06-

1. Turn signals went clear with colored bulbs.
2. Center piece of the fairing, between the headlights, matches fairing color. Was black before.
3. Exhaust get new "hairline" finish (lightly brushed stainless)
4. 300 cell cat and revised fuel mapping, which includes map-by-gear, to make it Euro 3 emissions compliant.
5. Gradated tinted windscreen.
6. Rear spring goes from red to black.
7. Before '06 VTEC went on and off @ 6800rpm. Starting '06 it's on @ 6600rpm and off @ 6100rpm.

I think that is about it.

Just to add in....in 2004+ US models had hazards...02-03 did not have them.

The 09 went up $500.00 in price lets see what the 2010 models will cost.

also some specific parts are different. Buddy of mine gave me some Galfer brake pads that he bought for his 03. Mine's an 07 and not the same pads. Different length and shape.

So if anyone has an 03 that needs front pads let me know...

I think the '06 was the first VTEC to sport a white-colored tach. Ditto for a silver brake master cylinder.

'07 was the first year in which a VTEC came with a black frame and radiators (although some were/still are silver.) The black '09 has a black swingarm (a first.) It's also the first VTEC to have black brake carriers and black forks.

By and large, however, the '02-'09 VFR is essentially the same bike.
