When I was in New Hampshire over the weekend (more house stuff!!!). I stopped in a Honda dealership and a guy was trading his VFR.
I do not know which bike he was buying but did notice it was a lot like mine. 06 pearl black OEM bags, LV slip-ons and
custom levers. I heard him say he also had the original parts. So, I was thinking would he have been better off
putting the original stuff back on trading it in and selling the mods separate, like on here or ebay? Do the mods make
any difference to the dealers? Just curious on this. Tried to find out the trade dollars, but they closed the door.
When I have talked to dealers about this, they say that the original bike is better for them to sell. The buyers tend to buy an un-modified or a modified bike. Some people like to keep things stock and don't want load pipes either. The dealers also will just sell the other parts that you might bring in and make more money from our upgrades.
IMO.. Put everything back the way you bought it and sell all the other items to us!
In almost any case your looking at a loss for just about any aftermarket modifications. Its almost always better to restore the bike to factory condition & sell whatever you might have on ebay or the forums.
Most want to buy a bike as close to "factory" as they can. They might not like the mods, they might not trust who did the work, or they'll question the usefulness of the mod.
Then again, I would say the same about the bike itself. Your gonna take a bath at the dealership. Much better to sell the bike via private sale.
Just curious, which dealership in NH were you at?
Trading in anything (a bike or a car) has always puzzled me :blink: . Then again, I've never had enough money to just give it away to my friendly neighborhood dealer.
And to 'answer' your question, I don't think you'll find a differing opinion from what has been said above. Stock it is.

I've kept the few parts on my bike I've replaced with upgrades, thinking that I'll likely put the OEM parts back on when I sell or trade the bike in (someday), then sell the mods separately.

Brother has a cabin in North Conway rode from there to Greenville, ME two weeks ago. We went up through Errol

Profile like most dealers has quite a bit of inventory. The real deals should be starting real soon to try and
decrease the inventory for the 2010 models. I have seen CBR 1K's for $7900 and new VFR's for $8200.

When I traded my VTX on my VFR I asked the salesman how much more he would give me on trade if I included all the aftermarket stuff and he told me that they'd probably give me another $250 or so, but that I'd be better off to sell my stuff. Off to E-bay I went and sold everything from my shop manual to mustang seat, windshield, etc. I walked away with almost $1000 cash from selling off my aftermarket goodies so for me I will remember that next time. On this bike I am keeping EVERY original part and it will go back to the dealer 100% stock when/if I trade off the VFR.
Things must be different here, in some ways. It's the same as far as the price you'd get from the dealer - they won't give you any more for the extras you've added. But for buyers the mods make a difference, which is why I bought the bike I did and not any of the others on the floor: it had the Staintune, CF tank cover and heated grips already fitted, yet wasn't any dearer than the other VFRs. I traded my VTR1000 with all the mods on it, as I couldn't really take them off.
