Lights.

Started up the bike at the end of the working day yesterday. Of course, the first drops of rain arrive from a very lame monsoon season.

Warm up the bike while I put my gear on. All ready to go, throw a leg over and leave the parking lot. I notice that the blue light for my high beams is off (I always ride with them on during the daytime). I figure I must've accidently hit the switch, so I toggle it between hi/low and get nothing. Weird.... :blink:

I pull over as the winds are starting to whip up and the sky is darkening. I get off the bike while it's still running and walk around for an inspection. All electrics save for the headlights are working. I turn the bike on and off, she starts right up and the lights come back on. I'm relieved as I don't fancy riding in the rain with no lights.

Despite getting a tad wet, I get home just fine. Lights were fine when I got home and turned her on/off a few times. Same with this morning, no problems.

I did a little searching here before I posted, but I can't really find anything that matches my problem.

Here's the stats:

� 2006 Honda Interceptor (bought new in '07)

� non-abs

� 15,000 miles

� no running problems up until now, save for a little hiccup after warming up on super hot day...seemed to get "choked up" after a few minutes into the ride, stopped, started again and was fine....

Was it a fluke or a true electrical problem that I need to have checked out? (I'm no mechanic), I did look at the battery and wiring and everything looked good...not brittle or brown...

A fellow Tucsonan checking in with you. Very odd. It doesn't seem to make sense, especially since the rain doesn't seem to be a factor. Weak switch or intermittent wiring issue?

Yeah, not the rain, that's for sure...... :cool:

I've been caught in many a massive rainstorm out here and never had a problem with electricals...on any of my bikes.

But intermittent problems are the hardest to troubleshoot. Try wiggling the connections while looking for any obvious issues like wiring abrasion or other odd appearances.

Maybe it has something to do with the portion of the starter thumb switch or related circuit that turns off the headlights for a moment while cranking the engine? I'm not sure if this is done by the switch itself or a relay somewhere (that might be getting stuck "off").

If you have the problem again, before you completely turn the key to off, try giving it a little wiggle to see if its a possible ignition switch problem.

I had this happen to me once a few years back and it turned out to be the starter button.
It was not coming back out fully. Make sure the starter button returns to its full open position.
I gave it a shot of wd-40 and all was well

Don't forget about the possibility of the filament in the bulb being broken. I have seen a number of times on cars were one headlight is out and you can tap on the headlight and it will come back on. The filament is broke and it gets 'bumped' back into making contact and completes the circuit and comes back on.

Could be something else, but consider the bulb too.

You know, on second thought, its probably not the bulb in this case since the 6th gen uses two bulbs, right? That would be too much co-incidence for both to act-up at the same time.

All is well as of this morning...cranked her up to ride to work, no problems at all... :ph34r: .
