I purchased a VTX 1800N yesterday. I love riding my viffer for days when I feel like hitting the curves and getting a little loose, but I also found a need to have a bike when I want to sit back, relax and ride. I am wondering, how many VFR owners have cruisers that they also ride? Maybe I'm getting old or something, or maybe I'm a person that just need the best of both worlds (sport bike and cruiser). How many of you guys have both? Please post some of yall views.

Traded a VTX 1800F for the VFR.
I miss the torque, but don't miss throwing sparks through the turns. The foot pegs needed the nuts replaced at 7k miles.

I also have a Yamaha Warrior 1700. It handles pretty well and is very powerful.
I had a Marauder that I LOVED to ride. I am like you, where as I enjoy the best of what the bikes can offer. My Kawa650 is really fun to ride. It gets the most miles. I sold my Mara and will be getting a new Cruiser sometime in the future. Dunno yet.
But I always did love the feel of a cruiser. It is amazing and such a cool feeling how each bike gives a different feel and mindset.
I have a HD Road King Classic and three VFRs(84 500,93,and 98). I love the looks of the Road King but it's a totally different ride, more like a 55 Buick. For long trips the 98 is my choice.
I like most bikes. Some more than others. Had a HD dynawide, want another HD, probably a Road King? Haven't really decided. After riding one, also want to add a Gold Wing to the 'fleet'. All very different, with pluses/minuses but that's ok, they're still motorbikes. :)

I got rid of my cruiser. I bought it used to try out for pretty much the same reasons. But, I'd say if you have the $$$$ to have both....What the hey..... I still sat on mine(SC)in the standard bike position is was a Victory sport cruiser. The thing I didn't like about it, not only would it scrap(which will probably be the only time I can scrap). But it seemed so wobblie trying to track in the corners. Anyway.... Looking for the ol' Man change in life didn't work for me, I missed the total handling I got from a sport bike. I'm not a knee dragger(with the exception of track days,I,d be close), but still get into pushing "MY" comfort zone.
I don't have a cruiser but I'd love to add one to the garage. I glanced at a sweet looking HD Dyna lowrider at a dealer last weekend. Way too spendy for me but it looked great!
BTW, after test riding a Buell 1125R Sat. morning, my VFR felt positively cruiser-like a few minutes later! :laugh:
I picked up a Pacific Coast last year to use for commuting and errands. That's about the closest I'll be getting to a cruiser, I think. I had a Shadow 600 for a few years, and wanted the Shadow ACE for the longest time. Kinda left all that behind. Still got two V Twins in the garage, though!
Spent an afternoon on a big VTX a while back.. decided they are NOT for me. I MIGHT consider a old-school Magna or V-Max, but those would be point-n-shoot rides.

I have a Honda Valkyrie, a big ass cruiser. I was attracted to it because it was different than all the "me too" V twin rides out there. The 6 cylinder, 6 carbs engine makes for one sweet ride. The engine sounds mean, kinda like a mini Porsche. Its a real torque monster.
I have had a sport bike/cruiser bike combination for over 20 years now and find if I dont have one or the other I miss it. I like both type of riding depending on my mood. Sometimes you feel charged and up for some action in the twists and other times just laying back low and slow in the wooded country side fills the soul.
I gotta have both.

I myself have the best of both worlds... I have no problem with a relaxing ride one day, and corner carving the next. It feels good to do both! :laugh:
I rode a VTX1300, it was a dog, soo slow. I like Yamaha's line of cruisers better I rode a V-Star 650 for 2 years and with some perf. parts it would eat a VTX1300 in every category. I just couldn't get into the fake bad@ss biker look. wearing a leather vest, riding a HD, and constantly having a constipated look on your face cause you're trying to be a Bad@ss, Lame.
Because I own a shop I've test hopped a couple of Cruisers... nice but no dice..

I get my new VFR on Tuesday, i have and will be keeping my 2008 VTX1300 a great bike, great sound and a smile by mile bike. But love the V-Twin and soon to enjoy the V4, I feel lucky to be alive.
My cruiser = my car :).
I've been riding since 1989. Don't even own a car. I've had sport bikes, sport-tourers, cruisers and two touring bikes.
They're like women. The one I like best is the one I'm riding at the moment.

I loved cruising on my old CB750. Does that count? I think standards are just as relaxed and comfy for cruising as cruisers, but with better handling and nobody thinks I'm trying to compensate for something.
Wish I could've kept them both! 2-up is better on just about anything other than the VFR...
Had a VTX and a ST1300, sold the ST and bought some dirt bikes. Big mistake. I liked the VTX and all, but I am more comfy on a sport tour bike than a cruiser on long trips so I traded the VTX on the VFR and now I see no need to own a cruiser. I may add a goldwing to the mix for trips with the wife, but solo I am more comfy on the VFR than any of the cruisers I have ridden.

You don't have to go slow, but they usually have limitations.

My cruiser has some balls - '85 V65 Magna with a kevlar clutch, '83 carbs, and 3.40 gears.....lot's of fun!

I also have a 2004 Yamaha Warrior 1700, which I ride when other people ride my vfr. I use the Warrior as a "general everyday bike" and the vfr for "the hill country rides" . It makes me no difference which bike I ride, just so I can ride and have fun.
Don't have one yet, but definitely feeling the MBS. I'm all over the place on what I'd get - maybe an M109 or Victory, somedays I really want a Triumph Thruxton though. Gorgeous bike. Love the VFR, but options are nice. No plans on selling what I have, but would like to add another....

I enjoy my '06 VTX 1300S quite well. It's a comfortable capable bike that has a sweet mellow sound. I'd love to run against your modified V-star 650 to seperate fact from fiction.
Interesting mix here... seems that for some, the VFR is the 'sportiest' bike they'd own.
For others, the VFR is the 'tour-isty' bike they'd own :).

My commute is 27 mile one way:
Heavy to Moderate traffic - 1997 Magna (handles this traffic well)
Moderate to Light traffic - 1998 VFR (slices and dices well in this situation)
Light to Open road - 2003 VFR (smooth and fast in light to no traffic)
Errands: 1998 Magna
Local area fun: 98 VFR and 87 Magna
Road trips - 2003 VFR
I can't afford all of these bikes but I can't seem give any up.
Naw. I'd get a classy retro standard before a full on cruiser bike. I think the Honda 750 shadow would make a nice commuter bike though.

I rented a HD Street Glide back in April...it was a blast. Tons of torque and compared to the VFR a completely different ride. But it was fun. I plan on getting one next year. For a long haul I don't think you could get any better than a cruiser. The Harley at a stoplight was jiggling and loud. I liked it.

I wish I could own several bikes more, and I would certainly want a cruiser to be one of them. My current favorite is the Suzuki Boulevard C50T with a C90 final drive conversion.
I used to have a '99 Shadow Aero (the 1100 with the single-pin crankshaft). It was my first bike...I liked it, but I was not entirely in love with it. I did the cruiser thing for 2 years, only to find out that it wasn't my thing. The VFR is definitely a better bike for me and my preferred type of riding (sporty sport touring).
If I could afford a 2nd bike I'd go for something smaller/lighter than the VFR. My top pick at the moment would be a Street Triple :wub: or just a small standard for commuting duties...at any rate, nothing bigger than what I already have.
Maybe the big cruiser itch will hit me when I get closer to 50, but I still have (almost) 2 decades to go until that happens. If I get to do more 2-up riding I might have to consider something bigger than the VFR...mind you the girlfriend is talking about taking her bike license...now that would be SWEET! :biggrin:
I bought a 99 Honda Magna V-4 750 a month ago and sold the 02 VFR a week ago. I needed something I could ride longer than 10 minutes w/o my hand going numb. I miss the VFR but I still have a sweet Honda V-4. Love the lazy-boy seating position of my Corbin seat with drivers backrest, highway pegs and big windshield. I just got back from a 3000 mile road trip to Sturgis and back and never felt wore out from the ride. 500-700 mile days were a piece of cake. Last year when I rode my VFR to Sturgis I was dying after long days in the saddle. My VFR is gone but not forgotten.

Cruisers are just not my cup of tea.
Big Dog Custom Choppers are really fun to ride and have loads of low end torque,... but they also have lots of vibration.
Since I can only have 1 bike,... It's got to be something that handles well, comfortable to ride all day, and super fast. I've owned 5 bikes and have never been happier than with my current ride.
I dont think i can ever get myself to buy a cruiser, in fact i pretty much consider the VFR already as cruise as i want to be. If i cant lean it over it doesn't interest me. I do want to buy a Super Motobike like maybe a Suzi DRZ400SM and i also like to buy a Ducati Monster 696.
Meh, NO. I need performance straight line, and in the three curves we have here in NoFla. And I'm NOT interested in looking at my reflection in storefront windows as I cruise by.

The closest I come now to a cruiser is my 85 VF500C Magna. I have owned big twin Harleys in the past and also built myself a one off custom HD Wide Glide. I love my VFR but have lately been looking for another HD as a "change of pace" bike. IMHO the Super Glide gives the cruiser mind set but can actually be pushed to handle somewhat for a big twin bike. There is no comparison of a HD to a VFR or other similar bike, just as there is no comparison between the Corvette I owned and a Kenworth T2000. Each is a purpose built machine designed to do their tasks very well. They are as different as night and day but each enjoyable in their own right. So, yes, I have and will own cruisers, just as I have and will own different types of foot wear. That's my $.05.

Sweet! I have tried and tried to get our sheriff to buy into the idea of a moto, but it's not really practical here with the long winters and over half our roads are dirt, but I still try. I told him I woudl get one of the BMW 1200's that is basically a large dirt bike and use it all over, but still he insists I must drive around in a crew cab silverado. Oh well, maybe one day.

Sorry the VFR didn't work out for you. I've done 750+ mile days back-to-back this year on mine and didn't have any hand/wrist/arm/back/neck/shoulder/butt/leg problems. The only problem I had was having to end the day's ride to get some sleep. And I'm no Spring chicken.
As for your '99 Honda Magna V-4 750, it looks like a fun bike. Wouldn't mind having one to ride occasionally, but I'd keep the VFR for use most of the time. Yours is a nice looking ride!

I've ridden both of my VFR's (98 and 2003) to my brother's house in Florida (530 miles one way). The 98 was a more comfortable ride (Gemars and Sargent seat) with the 2003 (Heli-bars and Sargent seat) being a better high speed performer.
I've considered riding my 97 Magna but I am concerned about the gas tank volume and the more frequent stops that I would have to make. Does the relatively small gas tank create a problem? Also, any buffeting issues behind your windscreen?

You're all getting old...So am I. Got a VZ800 Boulevard for those "lazy" days. Here in South Africa we have plenty sunshine days, ideal for that Sunday snail cruise with the VZ. That's when the VFR takes the day off. :schla15:
YES I do enjoy ridin' em'........in fact I enjoy everything from 50cc Ruckus Scooters to 1800 Gold Wings and everything in between.......I Ride em' all, and enjoy em' all.....CBR, VTX, VFR, on and on. If I'm on a " Motorcycle or Scooter I'm havin' FUN...... :fing02: :beer:
