Get this guys and gals,

I have Geico Insurance Company as my provider and my insurance through Geico is over 800.00 a year. The other day, I went to a local Honda dealership and talked to one of the salesman, who is a current viffer owner, he stated that his insurance through Esurance is only 300.00 a year. So, when I went home, I contacted Esurance and sure enough they qouted me 399.00 a year. Soon as my insurance expires next month, I will be switching the viffer over to Esurance. Are some of you guys getting price stiffed by your insurance providers? Oh yeah, Gieco adamently and continously states that the VFR is a high performance sport bike. I told the Geico representative that my bike is classified as a sport tourer. Any how, we debated back and forth without any comprimising ground. Now when I talked to Esurance representative, she stated that the bike is a sport touring model. Just want to get some of the guys thoughts on this. Like I said before, I will be switching to Esurance.
This insurance qoute is for Memphis, Tennessee.

Up here, in British Columbia, my insurance company, which insures my house and vehicles of mine and my wife, refuses to even insure the VFR. They say it is a sport bike--I think they just insure cruisers and other bikes, which probably cost a lot more in repairs than mine, but oh well. It costs me $250 for three months only for "basics". But this is Canada, so it does not apply to you. Just wanted to point out that the VFR is a tad harder to insure in my own experience. Where are you located btw? Might be useful to people to give you tips.
Good luck

I know insurance rates vary, but I have Geico and I'm only paying 340 a year for full coverage. Hope esurance can hook you up.

There was another discussion about this amonth or so ago. The bottom line is you NEED to shop around because rates vary widely. Here's what I posted in that THREAD.

Oklahoma Farm Bureau

$128 every 6 months. 38 years old, clean record.

Liability ( limits= 25K person/50K max for Personal Injury, 25K property damage) $44
Comprehensive ($500 deductible) $84

Mals

$399's not bad, but it might be worth it to look around a little more.

insurance coverages vary widely....when I shop around I always right down each part to be sure I am making a valid comparison. Rates can change yearly as well...and of course if they classify the bike as a sport bike you will get charged more. Cruisers cost less to repair...body work is expensive, chrome is cheap

State Farm.........cheapest I found.
#8
I live on the other end of the state, in Knoxville, TN and have Progressive and only pay $359 per year for full coverage (comp & collision) with $100K/300K limits, etc. State Farm was a bit more for me: around $450 per year if I remember correctly, even though I have my house, car, and trailer with them... I was 40 at my last renewal date and have a clean record. I'd day definitely go elsewhere if I were you. Good luck!

You don't have to wait until it expires. You can go ahead and bind coverage with Esurance and then turn around and cancel your Geico policy. You will get a refund for any unearned premium on the Geico policy.

I've heard a lot of people go with State Farm simply because their rates are the lowest. Something that really bothers me about them is how they only go by the size of the motorcycle's engine. The more cc's, the more the motorcycle costs to insure. In other words, it would cost you the same to insure a Honda VLX600 as it would a CBR600RR and it would cost you the same to insure a VTX1300 as it would a Busa. This makes no sense and immediately raises a red flag in my book.

I've been using Progressive over five years now and pay something like $550. Keep in mind I have full coverage and do not have clean driving record (but will again in nine months!) I also live in Texas where rates are higher than in the northern states I've lived in (because of year-round riding and higher theft rates.)

When I replaced my '94 YZF600R with my '02 VFR my insurance actually dropped by about $100. I have my cars insured with esurance and my bike with progressive. I compared the two and the difference was about $60. Any way I pay about $340 per year. By the way I live in St. Louis Missouri.

Like others have said, I have all of my property and vehicles insured through State Farm and I pay around 274$ a year. I'm 40 with a clean record. My 99' Gixxer 750 was 247$ a year, go figure... 80lbs less with 20 more horsepower?!? Still I had progressive quote me 1400$ a year for the Gixxer at the same time SF said 247$. Definitely Shop around.

I had progressive and they classify the vfr as a sportbike. I'm 30 with a spotless record and they wanted right at $1200 a year to insure it. I switched to state farm and now pay roughly 500 per year but I added personal injury protection, upped my liability and lowered my deductables ($100 for comp $300 for collision). I had bare bones full coverage with progressive with $500 deductables.

Let's not forget another big factor insurance companies have started to use in recent years in order to extract more $$ from the insuree...THE CREDIT REPORT! This can make quotes vary widely for people with the same demographics in a very perverse way!

Despite this, I -- clean legal and traffic records, employed, old guy, 750 FICA score, homeowner, etc. -- was recently quoted $887/year from Progressive for collision ($500 ded.), comprehensive, medical ($5k) and liability. I'll still be shopping, and may wind up insuring myself, just going with the liability part.

There are a ton of factors that go into insurance premiums. I'm with Progressive and under $200/year for full coverage. I know people who pay even less than that, but I think it's rare.

AAA - Full coverage with 500 deduct I pay $400 a year. But I have auto and home thru AAA aswell. I also have there premium tow card which works for autos, motorcycels and RV's. Will tow 200 miles once, and 2- 100 miles a year for free. well it cost like $130 a year so its not free, but if you loose the only motorcycle key you have and need one to get around it cost me $40 bucks to have AAA apporved lock smith to come out and cut me a key which toke the guy 1.5 hours. I love AAA and would never swithch to any other insurance company! And if you ever get in an accident and just so happens the other person has AAA, You will pay no deductable. I know this happened to me! Never heard of esurance! Is that an etrade insurance company?

Insurance is complex on purpose. Caveat emptor. Shop around, regularly.

Had similar situation with my auto ins. Very long term customer with multiple lines (home, auto, business...). A rate was offered to me for auto by another company was almost half. Went back to my agent who said without blinking he couldn't possibly compete. Told him I couldn't turn it down given the savings. He understood.

When comparing insurance prices, you must compare apples to apples. What are the limits for Liability, Comprehensive, Collision? What is the Deductible? How old are you? Rates vary drastically by state and city. Are you eligible for discounts, such as multiple insurance policies with same carrier (car(s), home, business, umbrella, life, etc.). And the way the insurance companies categorize the motorcycle will vary greatly. Shop around, but shop on the same requirements. Thanks.

See here for many reasons why you shouldn't use esurance.

It's nice and all when you save a few bucks but if you ever need to use it you will be screwed.

Do a ton of research and look into reviews for different companies.

A few I would never do business with (again):
21st century (a million hidden fees, tried to charge me more fees when I cancelled them)
Pacific Specialty (I got hit, other persons fault, now they are trying not to pay the mechanic who fixed it even though they are recovering costs from the other insurance co)
Esurance (I was about to sign up with them before I read the reviews, my email got spammed for weeks until I complained.)

Wow, you're a REALLY OLD guy!! I'm divorced, home's *this* close to foreclosure, credit's in the tank and I have Progressive for $296 a year! If I included uninsured motorist it would have been only $600 total. Maybe you should call me and I will give you my agent's number!!! :fing02:
Hey, let's go ride!!!!!!!!!

Comparing rates is fruitless, as there are too many variables to consider. Having said that, when I was shopping for insurance for the VFR I got rates from $1500 a year to $300 a year for the exact same coverage. I also got, "Is that a Ninja-style bike? Do you ride it bent over? If so, we won't cover it." You need to shop around.
#22
I'm still trying to get my insurance to change my bike from "sport" to standard or touring. I'm getting hosed with it as a sport bike.

HEY! Uh Huh, old and in the way! High concept. Jon. Unbelieveable! Insurance is so arcane even underwriters marvel at its weirdness. Yeah, let's go ride. I'm thinking S.R 121. It runs from the Georgia line all the way to Lebanon Station in Levy county. Or, S.R. 315 down through the ONF, or across the top. PM me, dude...your DIVORCED? Oh my, yeah, PM me for sure.

I was a little disappointed when I got my bike. I have all of my insurance through USAA, but they do not insure bikes. The good news though is that they have an agreement with Progressive to give us their best rate for Motorcycle insurance. I am fairly pleased as I maxxed out every option and am paying $365 /yr.
#25
I switched to Esurance 2 years ago, $119 per year, but I dont have maximum limits or medical, but it is comp, collision and liability.

I dont know if they are worth a squat, I just needed the peice of paper to be legal

but yeh these publically traded companies have to have growing profits , thats a sizeable margin isnt it in comparison

Well I guess the Insurance companies aren't that smart then cause my 14 year old classic can still go 145+ MPH if I want it to and makes regular fast runs in the mountain twisties as any VFR built since it left the Honda factory can! ;p

mine is running $868 a year, for full coverage (with stated value clause) on a 06 wee, 98 vfr, 06 breva 1100, 05 Drz650, and a triumph "70 650 tiger, and liability on a gs250, and a 3 xs 650 yammarhamsters. this is from safeco. It went down this year by $200 for some odd reason. I carry very high limits 1/2 mil on liability and uninsured. just remember you can get hurt bad in a bike wreck and it is easy to rack up $50-100k in medical stuff from a bad accident and maybe miss a lot of work...so if you get nailed by somebody uninsured or carrying the minimum (as low as 15k in Pa) you will be screwed if you are just carrying 15 or 20k in uninsured.

Think about it the most likely person to hit you is the irresponsible jackass, who probably doesn't carry ins. anyway. (or if your lucky they are carrying the min.)
#31
I know what ya mean, not sure what year they stuck the vfr in that sport premium. I know I was paying 178 dollars, till i bought the vfr, while Honda was getting my bike ready I called the insurance $1100 , I about died.
