06 Vfr Not Charging

Well my bike dosent qualify for the recall. It is a 2006. The battery stoped charging. Any ideas what it can be? 30A fuse and wires are good

Hi, you'll need charging numbers from your bike. Voltage at battery, voltage at idle, voltage @ 5k is the tell tail info needed.

If you haven't downloaded the Honda Shop Manual from our download section, do it and run through the R/R and Stator testing procedures as one must be bad or the wire to one or the other which are under the right lower fairing.

Right after the battery has been fully charged what is the standing voltage (bike off). It should been at least 12.8. Sounds like you may have a bad battery. I'd start by pulling the battery and having it load tested at Auto Zone (etc.). Then report back your findings.

Yeh, 12.5 on a fully charged battery is very low , i agree on that 12.8 , a really good battery will hold over 13volt.

When they start getting weak you get readings like 12.7 or 12.8 , but 12.5 is very low and suspect

but to rephase, charge battery fully let sit for 2 hours, if at 12.5 there's a definite issue there with the battery

check your red charge wire from RR to battery it has several connections that can build resistance

If the key is on, 12.5 is quite normal. I would charge the battery fully, then start by testing the Stator output. After the stator test, check the R/R...starting with the Monitor wire reading, then check output at the R/R plug, as well as doing the diode tests (usually inconclusive due to how they fail).

Thats a good point about the key on and thats probably what he meant , but i always like to know what the standing voltage is, when stating full charge.
