Looking for opinions here....
I have a 2007 VFR800A. I want to get a little more pep out of the acceleration. Soon I will be replacing the chain and sprockets as a set but before I do I want to play with the gearing.
The different combos considered are:
1) -1 on the front
2)+2 on rear
3) -1+2 that seems so popular
I would like to try some version of these while using an old chain to see how I like it before buying a whole set.
My thoughts:
Option 1 is cheapest to try
Option 2 may not fit even though chain is stretched some already
Option 3 may be too much change and throws speedo off too much (dont want to buy a healer)
Anyone got an opinion they want to air?
Also a good place to order from.... I have seen the older posts but would like more current info
Thanks in advance

Note, however, chain 110 links not 112
4) +1 on the rear! LOVE IT.
-1 in the front is exactly the same as +2 on the rear. +1 on the rear is a happy medium.
I am running +2 on the rear with the stock chain, changed it over at about 1,200 miles so I know it fits with a non-stretched out chain. It is much more peppy, however i am now abotu 11% off with my speedo so I cruise down the highway at 6,000rpm's instead of 5,400rpm. I'm not sure if I will go back with it or not, but if I lived somewhere that I did not spend hours at a time runnign 85-90mph I would do it easy. Out here I spend too much time just cruising high speeds so I may go back stock here soon.

-1/+2 can be done with stock chain. I love it, but it will throw the speedo off.
Other combos may be too tight/loose and if so, you have to remember that you have to
add or subtract two links for a net gain or loss of 1.
Chad at Sprocketcenter will answer any question(s) you could ever come up with. We've done group buys through him before. :warranty:

A lot of it depends on what you do with the bike the most. I went -1/+2 a while back on my 98. Turned it into a ROCKET, but threw the speedo a total of about 15% off true. Not TOO much worse than stock, but having to run close to 90mph indicated to keep up with traffic on the freeway was kinda strange. If you do a lot of highway riding or commuting, or cruising, then -1/+2 might be a little much. I know the 5th/6th gens have slightly different ratios in the transmission, but mine is spinning at close to 6k rpm to go 70mph. Gets pretty buzzy and running at 80mph sustained it gets crap for mpg. You'd probably be better off to go with a slightly less drastic change. Though there's something enticing about being able to snap the throttle and wheelie out of 1st gear on command. : :squid: :wheel:
I have a 2003 and went up two on the rear. It is just about perfect for me. A subtle change, but you do notice it under acceleration.......especially on the drive off of slow speed corners. Still nice on the highway too.
Thanks for the info.... Really glad to know stock chain will accept two more teeth....Ordered sprocket today :wheel:
Also did the +2 on the back. By far best bang for the buck mod IMHO.
Isn't it cheaper and easier to do -1 on front? I guess adding two out back is less stress ont he chain and -1 in front.
I don't really do much highway riding. I would like to try -1 up front out

Going down one tooth on the front sprocket is comparable to going up three on the rear sprocket.
