Father Son Moments

My 4-year-old son, Ryan, is all boy. If it has wheels, rolls, or makes loud noises, he's there. His interest in Dad's bike has been growing steadily over the past couple of years and hasn't peaked yet. EVERY morning when I walk out the door, he runs out behind me to the garage, watches intently as I gear up, and waits anxiously for the sound of the motor firing up. He smiles big every time, without fail. As I roll backwards out of the garage into the driveway, he'll follow just a couple of feet away from the bike, inspecting the motion of the chain, watching the tires rotate, waiting for the first gear "clunk". He'll run down the driveway behind me, stare and listen as the bike pulls away. Any chance he gets, he's geared up to the hilt -- helmet, gloves, jacket, boots. We've snapped a few pictures lately and I wanted to share them because they're just so darn cute.

Sharing a MotoGP moment. I think that's Capirossi on the screen. Ryan and I have shared a few races now. Rossi, Lorenzo, Stoner, and Nicky are becoming household names.

Very, very cool. I've got 3 boys, 3, 5 and 6. During the last MotoGP race, my 5 year old referred to Rossi as "The colourful, fast guy".

I remember in high school, repeatedly waking up and finding my bike gone because my pop "stole" it to go to work on. I dont think boys ever forget thier father-son bike moments.

Great pics! Looks like you're headed down the expensive road.... Soon he'll get the pocket bike, the gear, then he'll be doing track days with ya!!

I haven't posted may times on this site but I thought I would this time. It's not only way cool that your son loves to be a part of your passion its pretty cool how proud you are of him too. I enjoyed reading your post and good luck to both of you in your future rides together.

If all young boys had the good fortune to have a father like you, many of society's problems would go away. Moments like this with our sons and daughters makes our problems seem much less important.

And by the way, that's one good looking kid you have there! Must have gotten it from his mother?

My son just turned 2 a few weeks ago. He likes watching Moto GP but not F1... And anything with wheels is good for him. He has the lightning tool box and in the morning we find him in the bed with his lightning car from the tool box...

I made the mistake of taking him for a ride on the lawn tractor... So every morning we have to go "ride tractor" for 30 minutes. And he likes sitting in my M3 but the engine has to be running or he askes "key Key Key" while sitting in my lap..

I get geared up and he goes "ride motorcycle" he also rubs the VFR in the garage, and the M3 and goes "ohhh nice"

It would be neat one day to go out riding with my boy.

Here's my son Jeremy and I a few years ago in Fauquier, BC.

The two guys in the background were two of three guys we met at Toadrock Campground just south of Ainsworth Hotsprings. We hooked up and rode the loop and had a blast.

Also some fatherly advice for you guys with young guns coming up. Don't make the mistake like I did and let your son ride a Yamaha. He likes to rub it in about Rossi and Yamaha's current dominance in MotoGP and World superbike. :laugh:

My brother and I were at that race. Rossi's engine smoked and he parked it in front of us at turn two. Very, very hot day! Scorching hot day! I suffer just thinking about it.
