Seat Cowl Removal?

Well put me back in the rookie position, but how do I get this darn seat cowl off??

I just bought my VFR and I'd like to say the dealer showed me how. But, when I bought it my salesman wasn't there and a guy who proclaimed to be a 4wheeler salesman asked me "so, is this what they call a naked bike?". I told him no, and just get the papers for me to sign....anyhow, how do I get that seat cowl off short of using a hammer?

lol, set the hammer down... Take off the seat, stand at the back of the bike, seat facing forwards. Look under the seat. at the front of the cowl are 2 round tabs in the seat that the cowl is locked into. Pull the cowl tabs off the seat tabs gently then slide the cowl back. Easy-peasy.

just unlock the seat and take it of and it just slides oof

Ok, maybe I just didn't pull on the seat hard enough. I tried to take the seat off the bike (with cowl attached), and I could feel the latch moving, but it didn't feel like it was loosening enough. I thought the cowl had the seat locked on there somehow. Well, if that's the case I'll just pull up on the seat a little harder, after that I can probably see how the cowl comes loose then.

Not trying to sould like a wise guy here, but you are pulling up and rearward on the very rear of the seat while the key is turned in the seat lock, right?

Like tpierce said, once the seat is off the bike, just gently remove the cowl's tabs from the underside of the seat.

When you go to reinstall your seat, look under it to make sure the plastic (or nylon?) L-shaped guides go under the metal loops sticking up from the subframe. Slide it forward a bit, then press down on the rear part of the seat. You should hear an audible 'click' when it locks in.

Well I might need some "wiseguy" advice! Actually by looking at it I was pretty certain the cowl had to come off before the seat would, so I didn't put alot of effort into it. I just went out to the garage, and with some gentle persuasion it popped up. I'd say it's just stiff since it's new.

I also got the cowl off no problem, but wow did it rub two little indents right behind each corner of my seat!

Darn! Too late or I would have chimed in with, "the owners manual says, take it to your local Honda Dealer for authorized service" The marks you found seem to be somewhat common from what I have heard. A small bit of clear plastic protective tape should help avoid further damage. I might also take it to the dealer and complain that the stock part caused damage to the tail section and want them to warranty a new one. Good luck with that though.
