Factory Luggage..

I'm thinking of adding the factory luggage to my '07 and had a question. Which GIVI racks and cases are the twins to the Honda OEM luggage, I mean I need the exact model number and cost. I've spent some time searching for discounted OEM color matched and really haven't found anything. The David Silver Spares web site is useless, unable to find any luggage on it. Even if I could the exchange rate pounds vs dollar precludes any kind of good deal. So far a dealer close to me will sell a OEM color matched set for a grand minus 15% discount ..so about $850.00 before taxes. I appreciate any input you can give me on this.

There is no exact twin to the OEM stuff. Although they are made by Givi, the Honda luggage mounts differently than the Givi. The closest style side case still sits further away from the bike than the Honda luggage also. Just my .02

You have to buy cases & mounts separately, but the resale/depreciation may be better on these being that the bags can be mounted to other bikes as well. The downside to this is that the bags have a more universal shape - or should I say, the OEM bags match the VFR's contours better, allowing for more storage. For example, my helmet fits in my OEM bag, but not in a Givi. It's super convenient to be able to drop your lid & jacket under waterproof lock & key and walk away, it was worth the extra bucks to me.

Their prices do fluctuate some, I have seen the hard bags drop to as low as $799 (includes the mounting hardware).

I have also had some success with David Silver, if you email them they are very quick to respond and were extremely helpful. I got a OEM top case w/hardware & shipped for like $150 earlier this year. Color doesn't match but the usefullness to me outweighs the color.

Look here. Honda Direct Line parts Telephone them and ask for Walter. As a VFRD member you get an extra discount. I don't see luggage listed in the fiche but I can tell you I got my 4 year extended warranty through him and saved about 35% over anyone else! Be sure you mention you are a VFRD member.

Part number for '07 (in Blue, but color I don't think will effect price) is 08L52MCW1E0

HDLP lists them for $942.34

Ron Ayers still list them for around $920.00 US. Not sure of the color

Assuming you worked with a local dealer on your new VFR, hit them up for a good price on the OEM bags. If they have to order it, it's a guaranteed sale, so perhaps they'd be willing to go with a minimum markup. They'll make a little money and keep you happy, too.

Otherwise, check here and ebay often. Most luggage sold by previous owners is still new-in-box, like-new or very lightly used. Ex: I bought my bags via ebay, NIB for $600 + shipping.

If you can work the OEM bags into the deal to get them at cost. My dealer showed me the screen that said his cost for the OEM bags was about $740.

I emailed David Silver Spares last week and asked about availability of the '07 Red OEM bags. I received a cordial reply in return indicating they didn't have any in-stock. He went on to say that altho he could order them for me -- once their cost, plus shipping, etc was added in -- it would not be a competitive price. he encouraged me to other options within the US.

After discovering that Amazon.com also sells the bags for $900, I decided to go back to the dealer where I purchased the bike. His best price was about 15% off the MSRP. I decided it was worth more to me to have the bags soon than it was patiently waiting and continually searching sites hoping a better deal would show up. Obviously other folks may be in a different position.

I should have the bags by next week at the latest and I'm OK with the price. Not door buster by any means, but a discount from the listed price.

Does anyone know if v35s will fit to the oem brackets?

When I was looking for luggage last year I spent hours looking at pictures of both the Givi V35 and OEM setups. I wouldn't bet my life on it, but I think the designs are different enough that they would not. Even if you could make it work, are you willing to trust that it wouldn't come off at the most inconvenient time?

I took a good 400 mile day ride about a week ago and have fallen in love with the bike even more....now I want to do some longer touring and I know the hard bags will be very helpful, even when commuting to work.

I use them on mine for commuting to work and they are an absolute blessing. Even on day rides when the weather is changeable I can take extra gear with me. I have to say my bags are more often on the bike than not. Only problem with commuting is that tires flatten out due to the straight line interstate riding. Gotta find a really good dual compound tire set over the winter.

That is a good price. I have a few sites bookmarked with good deals on the bags, but they're on my work computer. I'll try to remember to post them tomorrow.

Would anyone with the OEM luggage be kind enough to measure the overall width of the luggage when mounted? I have the V35 set-up because I kept them from when I had them on my 650R. I cut the mounts a little to make the set-up a little more narrow and so I'd be curious to see how they compare to stock.

FWIW, mine measure 35.5" across at the back corners (by the bottom of the lens piece) and 41" at what appears to be the wide point.

A previous post mentions not being able to put a helmet in the V35 cases. If you have a normal type of full face helmet in a small or medium you should be able to fit that in the V35 cases. Mine will hold my size M Suomy or Arai.

If I recall the magazine stats correctly, the 6th gen with OEM luggage is 39" wide.

Hopefully another VFRD member with a 6th gen & luggage can actually confirm for you.

+1. I keep my rain gear in one of the bags, so if it might rain on my way home I just clip the bags on when I leave for work in the morning. I don't use them everyday, but do use them more often that I thought I would.

Hard bags are outstanding for overnight or weekend trips, or even long one-day rides if you want to carry extra gear and/or food/drink and emergency tools/supplies.

I have GIVI E-41 Keyless model on mine. Wider then OEM, but I really like them becouse helmet is not a problem and you can just open the top portion (very convinient)which color much the bike(it looks much better from the side then OEM).

Do you happen to have the part number for the top case for the 07? When I check David Silver Spares' site, they don't even list the 07 as an option. They go from 06 to 08, skipping 07 entirely.
