How do I get residual fuel out of the tank?

Ok, I have the tank off the bike, I have removed the fuel pump and the fuel level sender and I still can't get the rest of the gas out. What am I doing wrong? What's the trick? After that, anybody have any tips for shipping? Does it have to be completely odor free to get it shipped? Thanks.

The last little bit of gas can be hard to get out. Maybe you could rig a siphon or some kind of suction device, or just let it evaporate...or maybe light a match?? :idea3: :goofy:

Well, since I had everything out, I just stuck some rags in there to soak it up. Then I put everything back together and I will clean the outside, that should alleviate the odor enough to get it shipped.
So, hopefully all will go well and I won't get arrested for attempted domestic terrorism.... :goofy:

I was going to suggest this and it was the only thing I could do when I was going to paint my first vtec tank. It can be rather difficult if you have large hands and the edges of the pump hole can be sharp so exercise caution when doing so.

The trick is hold the tank upside down and shake the residual fuel out of the tank... remove the fuel injection plate
on the bottom of the tank and shake the residual fuel out of the tank... allow the removed fuel injection pump and
filter a chance to air dry along with the inside of the tank... assemble it all back and you are ready to ship...

That won't work with the 6gen tank. There's still about 2 cups worth of gas left; even after doing all that. BTDT several times.

Just went through the same job.
Siphoned all I could and then shook out as much as possible.
Then used some rags and no more fuel.

If you're not too lazy, spray/fog a little DW40 inside to avoid rust.

The tank I bought shipped UPS with gas sloshing around inside.

Negative... it does work with any fuel injection tank... you may have stopped shaking too early...
