I'm having problems with securing my seat to the bike. It's been ongoing for a little while, but wasn't too concerned because of the 4 hooks that keep the seat on (besides my weight). But today I went to put my Corbin on again, and I couldn't get it to latch no matter what. I've gotten it to latch before by slamming it down, but today, even that didn't help. Then I couldn't get the stock seat on securely either. The tail end just keeps popping up and won't latch into the seat lock. Both the manual and Corbin's site say to push the seat forward. I got news for them, there's no freaking way the seat is going any more forward! I tried. I'm bringing it to the dealer tomorrow to do the 600 mile service, so I'll them take a look at it, but in the meantime it's prevented me from going for a ride w/my gf, and prevented me from going for a solo ride (I'm too pissed to ride right now). So I'm looking for some help. Here's a few pics. You can see the rather large gap between the seat and the bodywork.
You are missing the tabs for the middle hooks on the bottom of the seat when your sliding it on, leaving them sitting on top of the location pins instead of being hooked on the. This is causing the no latch issue! :blush:
You need to start with the seat back a few inches when you set it on the frame to allow the hooks to catch and slide on their location pins, otherwise it just sits on top of the pins which is what you are dealing with.
Thanks, but I really don't think I'm missing with those hooks. It feels like I'm getting them, and if I didn't, the seat would be much more loose than it is. The Corbin doesn't have the 2nd set of hooks at all, so I know that's not the main problem.
Are you storing your small tool bag or owners manual under the seat? If so, sometimes these things get in the way. I have a tire repair kit, owners manual, and tool kit tucked away under the seat on my 08. Every now and then I have to wiggle the seat forward and press down on the rear to get it to latch. Good luck.

All I've got under the seat are the owner's manual (pretty small) and the stock took kit, which in my case consists of only the shock adjuster tool. And if I'm not mistaken, having ABS and the adjustment knob on the outside, I don't even need.
It's not like this is my 1st bike (it's #4) and I don't know what I'm doing. So there's either some trick needed that I don't know, or it needs to be adjusted. I'm leaning toward the latter. It's dark here now, and no garage, so I'm not going to worry about it anymore today. And tomorrow it goes to the dealer for scheduled service. So I'll have them take a look. I might even have my gf bring the Corbin when she picks me up after work to go get the VFR. If they do something to get the stock seat to work, I want to see if it works with the Corbin too. I'd prefer to leave the stock seat on, with the cowl, when I ride solo and put the Corbin, with backrest, on when the gf tags along.
I had it serviced today and mentioned the seat to them. Turns out I bent the plate that the latch is attached to by banging the snot out of it trying to get the Corbin on. They straightened it out and now the OEM seat latches fine. I haven't tried the Corbin again yet. It's dark by the time I get home and I don't have a garage. But I'll try to get to it over the weekend. And this time, I'll be more gentle.

Glad to hear you got your seat straightened out.... I noticed you made a comment on what was in your tool bag, and said you had a rear shock adjustment tool. Most of the newer VFR's don't come with one, chances are it's your chain adjustment tool... Just a FYI !
I had a similar problem with my Sargent. It turned out that the plastic around the metal bracket that slips into the lock was getting in the way. I cut some of it off and all was well. Not sure if it applies to Corbin though, but worth a look. You will see it on the seat where it hits the sub-frame if such place exists.

Yeah, I was just a tad upset. :angry: The mechanic actually called me an animal for the way I beat on the thing, but in a friendly kind of way. I'm not gonna mess w/the Corbin again until the weekend, when I can look at it in daylight and spend some 'quality' time w/it.
As for inanimate objects, I have daily frustrations with them. I'm in IT support! :pissed:
