Honda special tools - available online?

Anyone know of a site that sells Honda's special tools at a discount?

I bought the tool for the steering head bearings a few years ago. It was pricey from the dealer but it's seen a lot of good use.

I'd like to pick up a few swingarm/locknut tools but I'm afraid to ask how much they are at the local shop. They're great about letting me borrow tools, especially for the older bikes, but it would be much more convenient to just have them here...

You can try the factory warehouses? Sombody uploaded a list of phone numbers for them, I found it when I was changing the website over.

You can order Honda tools from any Honda dealer; some dealers (i.e., Service Honda, Zanotti, Ron Ayers) are cheaper than others.  The trick has often been finding the part numbers for the special tools.  I got a Tool Catalogue off Yahoo Japan Auctions a few years ago, but it only covered models up to 1998.  Otherwise, you can get the part numbers from the Workshop Manuals for each bike.  It's a bit of a strange book, but seems to have most of the tools (and dimensions) I thought it should have.

The tool catalogue file (someone scanned it for me a year or two ago, but the resolution kinda sucks) is 14.5Mb...maybe someone would find it of interest, but I don't know the best way to get it distributed.  (Mark my words, it will shortly be appearing on those CD-ROMs on eBay!)

Any chance you can stuff it in a zip file and email it?

I did pull the tool numbers I needed from the shop manual - and I also stopped by the dealership and borrowed what I needed today. I think I'm going to measure them while I have them and cut up a couple sockets or pieces of pipe to shape - they will do for now.

Luckily, I have a good relationship with my local dealer and I can pull stuff like this off. Would be great to find a cheap place and pin it here.

I did try entering the tool numbers on a few online fiches, but they don't register(part search only).

Two of the phone numbers go to dealerships in North Carolina, BTW.

I was looking for Kawi tools a couple years ago and was able to find some. Most I didn't need, but they were out there.

Most people just sacrifice a socket with the appropriate OD, but that doesn't give you the ability to apply the proper torque like the factory tool. For that, you would have to weld on a short bar with a 1/2" (or 3/8") square-drive hole placed at the right location.

I also have that tool, btw, ordered from Honda in the 'States many years ago, so it is likely still available. I think it was around $60 at that time.

I'll have to wait till Monday, but will find out what my cost would be at work. Should be dealer cost plus 10%.

Evidently, I didn't see when this topic was originally posted. Anyway, I didn't get a chance to nab a parts guy yesterday, but tied one of 'em up for a few moments today. Jamie is correct: part 07908-4690002 supersedes to 07908-4690003 (retails for $55.80, cost +10% is $46.04), and part 07HMA-MR70200 (retail $101.10, cost + is $66.73) Seems we shop at the same store, Jamie! :rolleyes: No sales tax here, though.
