Australian GP fans - 'One HD' is replaying some 'classic' 500 races from the early 90s on Sunday nights at 8PM. My goodly wife (bless her cotton socks) recorded the 1992 Catalunya race last night. Donnington (again 1992) is scheduled for next Sunday. Don't know how long it will last - hopefully until the start of the GP season! Suspect it'll be typically Ocker one-eyed programming i.e. they'll only choose races with Doohan and/or Gardner up the front.
I'm halfway through the Catalunya race and Mick is giving everyone (except perhaps Rainey) a riding lesson. Top six after 10 laps - Doohan, Rainey, Kocinski, Shwantz, Lawson (on the crappy but v'sexy Cagiva) and Chandler (Gardner is nowhere to be seen and Crivelle looks like he just pulled out of the race with a bad case of the "I'm not doing very well so I'll make some stuff up about how the bike isn't quite right"!).
BTW - so many good American racers in GP racing during the early 90s and then relatively few in the naughties! Perhaps we'll see a few more in the ranks with US domestic racing apparently in the decline (if some of the recent postings in this forum are acurate)?

OneHD has the sole rights for MotoGP this year (and the next four), I can't stand Greg Rust and Darryl Beattie :( but if they're going to do this sort of stuff it might make up for that pair of drongos.

on high horse now - If we all had as much riding talent as he's got in his little toe ... what's that? ... oh that's right ... he's missing some toes ... but anyway, with his pedigree I reckon he deserves the right to say and do what he likes on the tele! Posted Image

I like Beattie The Motorcycle Racer but Beattie The Motorcycle Commentator drives me mad... but I am hard on commentators, I reckon they should be able to do a better job than me at spotting things as they happen, and making predictions, and mostly they don't :cool: . And it drives me mad when they talk up a potential pass when it is clear as day that there is no pass about to happen, I suppose they are paid to spark things up but most of the time bike racing doesn't need any help from the talking heads! Unlike car racing.
Beattie does ok from time to time but I expect more. We were a bit spoiled to have Barry Sheene doing our GP commentary for so many years... and I listened to Keith and Julian, Roger Burnett and Steve Parish a lot over the last decade too, all great commentators. So guys like Beattie and Rust (ugh) are the pits for me and really take away from the whole 'occasion' of racing. Which is why I got Foxtel, but now that's come to naught :mad:

Strongly agree about Barry Sheene - I miss him on ten's commentary team.
These replays are the shiznit! Recorded last nights - Philip Island I think, with Rossi on the 500.
I miss Bazza. I don't mind Dazza but Rusty gives me the shits. Doesn't know squat about bikes. I really miss Keith and Julian though, coz they were piss funny.
IF ONLY ONE could obtain the rights to the WSBK then we would all be happy. I hope someone at ONE is looking at the opportunity...
