I am swapping out my current crank case cover for a new one, the current one has scratches and minor damage from old as well as some recent vandalism. Finally got one cheap on ebay with no damage. So i know I have to drain the oil and replace the gasket but do i need to remove the ignition pulse generator wiring as well. I am hoping that it will be a simple matter of:

1. Drain Oil (check colour and consistency)
2. Remove Bolts
3. Remove and discard Gasket
4. check dowels
5. Replace new Gasket
6. Attached all bolts
7. Fill with oil
8. Start her up.

Anyone who has had to replace the crank case (right engine cover) i would appreciate some advice, or indeed form anyone with the knowledge who is prepared to impart knowledge on a fellow rider.

Thanks

It's been a few years since I did this, but if I remember correctly, you have it nailed. The pulse generator (this is the part I can't remember off the top of my head) slips into the cover at the rubber gasket thing and doesn't need to be disconnected. Even if I'm wrong about the pulse generator, I remember it was really easy and common sense will guide you through it.

Be sure to tighten the cover down in a cross pattern too so that it seats evenly on the gasket all the way around.

Good luck!

There are two locations on the cover where it is necessary to place an RTV sealant. The two locations can be found by looking in the service manual. Other than that, you have figured out the rest of the assembly.
