Bar End issue.....Help!

Okay, I have a 02 VFR. I bought it with Throttlemiesters. I took those off and sold them since I never used them. I bought new bar ends to install and I figured easy deal, slide them in and screw to tighten. Well my left one has the threaded insert to screw the bar end into but the right side (throttle side) doesn't, it's hollow inside. What am I missing, where do I get it?

there is a whole doohicky thing that goes in there. prolly removed for the throttlemeister. It is a tube with inserts and rubber bushings that is a BITCH to get back in. I may have one if you wanna bust your knuckles getting it in there.

A little WD-40 on the rubber pieces and you're golden.

I thought the thing was a bitch to get out. ;p

my experience:
These damn oem inserts are a POS and a PITA.
I used the quotation....
" If you cannot fix it with a hammer...at least you can damn sure teach it a lesson"
So I am usually calm, cool, and collected as a mechanic but my helibars do have some mashed up , smashed up oem inserts that
are buried in them....I put some bar ends that expand with the rubber bushings in them so all is fine..

I removed the OEM inserts and reinstalled them into the Ducati 900SS Helibars that now grace my wreck.

It was a beeyotch to get them out and in again, but it allows me to use the OEM style bar end weights as well as retain the internal weights, something that would be missing if one just used aftermarket ones with the expanding rubber plugs.

I DID run my bike for a short while during testing without any bar end weights or internal weights, and the vibration was noticeable.

These parts are actually REALLY SIMPLE to get IN and OUT. All it takes is 2 small squirts of WD-40 or penetrating oil. There is a hole in each handlebar under the switch pods, for the switch pod locating tab. Guess what's right near this hole on the inside of the bar? You guessed it, the inner rubber bushing.

So, you simply remove 3 screws - (bar end bolt + 2 screws for the switch pod), then add 2 squirts of WD. One into the handlebar under the switch, and one into the end of the bar where the bar end came of. Then, bolt the bar end back on. Once installed, twist and pull on the bar end till the weight is out. :fing02:

thanks for the info. I have since ordered the replacement bar wieght and it aint cheap. $30 w/shipping. Oh well.

Question though, I ordered some bar ends off ebay and they didn't fit inside the bar, the diameter was to big to slide in, the ebay (planetbolts) said they are specifically for the 02-08 VFR. I sent them back for them to double check but are these bars special? Suggestions on bar ends? Thanks.
