Here's an interestingg project for someone with a lot of time and money on their hands, who happens to like motorcycles, VFRs in particular, and snowmobiles. Ski-doo has just come out with an 800 E-tec engine for their snowmobile line. Years ago Ski-doo bought Evinrude Outboard Motor company and continued developiing direct injection two stroke motors. A year or so ago Ski-doo brought out the 600 E-tec in the snowmobiles and this has been a huge success. It gets way better mileage than any two stroke on the market, comparable or even better than the four stroke sleds that all manufactuers make now, after Yamaha pioneered four stroke sleds some years ago by adapting their R-1 engine. The E-tecs use very little oil, get great gas mileage, have superior power-to-weight ratios because they are two strokes. The E-tecs have about the same or even less emisions than do four strokes. The new 800 E-Tec is rated at about 155-159 horsepower stock. This engine would be much lighter than the current V-4 engines in our V-4s so the giddyup in the VFR would be substantial and would have a unique sound.
Just a thought for a project. For years snowmobilers contemplated four stroke engines in sleds, now they all make them, now we can contemplate a clean running two stroke for motorcycles. So here's a project, put an 800 E-tec in a VFR with the dual clutch transmission. Someone get on that, would you? :wheel:
