Its imperative that I get a new bike (currently, I have none, zero, zilch, nil.... all is not right in the world). :)
What type? And easy choice - a VFR. I loved my '00.... wish I would have never sold it.... best bike I ever owned.... (put that line in there to add one more to the popular view)
I am not inclined to go up to the 1200cc. I just cant see any benefit, and have no issues with a chain and traditional shifter.
The '08 Silver just doesnt grab me. Ditto on the RWB Anniversary.
I would prefer buying new.
Which leaves the '09 in Black, or there seems to be a handful of leftover Red '07's. ABS would be nice, but I might not have that option in the '07.
Resale isnt a big concern for me.
Anything else I should consider? If I can find an '07 Red with ABS, I think I will go with it. If it comes down to an '07 w/o ABS vs and '09 with ABS.... Might flip for it (the '09 is definitely more $$, but basically the same bike... but I might not care 8 or 10 years from now)
Nope nothing else to consider, 07's and 09's are the same bike other than color, if you where up here in the great white north, the 09 is a black/white combo that is very nice looking.
Color seems to be the deciding factor if you don't plan on resale.. They're the same bike however one is 2 yrs newer. Tho you might pay less for the 07... You can't go wrong!

I like the 2008 silver / gray. I think the wheels are gray also. Add a red lip stripe to the wheels and that would be a sharp bike. I'm not a fan of most black bikes. They remind me of older plain HD's.
If possible, definitely get a VFR w/ABS. I wanted ABS but settled for a used mint condition, bone stock, low mileage '04 without it. I haven't regretted it yet but I still wish I had ABS, just in case.
As for buying a new '07 vs. '09, keep in mind you should see lower insurance rates with an '07 for awhile. And I believe I've seen more leftover '07s out there than leftover '08s and '09s combined.
Just my $0.02, but you should consider buying used. Most VFR owners take very good care of their bikes, and there are some low mileage bikes out there, including some with nice mods already installed. A new bike warranty is nice to have, but I wouldn't have used it anyway, as my bike had zero problems in my first year of ownership after I bought mine from the original owner.
Hey! Another New Englander on VFRD! Woohoo!! I used to work in Littleton tuning pianos and was in Harvard quite a bit. Beautiful town -- especially for riding. :biggrin: Once you acquire your new steed, give me a PM and we can explore some of those beautiful roads in your neck of the woods. We've put together a few very memorable organized rides over the past three or four years too, so keep your eyes pealed here for any announcements.
Welcome aboard and good luck in your new purchase. I love my '02 and will likely keep it until either it dies or I do.

Honda had blowout pricing on leftover '07 VFRs awhile back. Maybe if you are lucky there are some left somewhere. You might have to travel to get it though. Fly in, ride home.

About 3-4 Grand in price! :fing02: You should be able to find a leftover 07 for between $7-8 k OTD, doubt if you'll get more than $500 off an 09. But hey if you can get the B&W 09 for ,$8k but it!
For the thousands you'd save buying an 07 vs 09 you could buy a full set of whatever color you wanted of factory bodywork and recoup half that cost selling the new bodywork off the 07. :idea3:
It seems the earlier great deals on new 07 VFR's was driven mostly by Honda's rebates to the dealers. I think that has ended and the great deals now (at least that's what it sounds like from my dealer) are being driven by dealers buying stock (some at auctions) from other dealers (some going out of business), 50 to 75 cents on the dollar.

Naults Cycle in Windham, NH. Take 495 north to 93 north. It's right off exit 3 after you cross into NH. I've had pretty good success with them, although others on the board might not agree.

Or, find a Dark Candy Red '07 (The World's Best Color In The World!) on Cycle Trader at a dealer anywhere in the U.S. and pay $500 - $600 to have it shipped to you - and you're still making out like a bandit :ph34r:
AND you'll have the fastest, best handling, awesomest color ever put on a VFR.

Follow this link from Honda Powersports. It gives all of the dealers around your zip code in order of distance, with their addresses and phone numbers. I used Harvard's zip.
Had to call around a bit, but I did manage to find a 'pre-scratched' model. I would have paid extra, thinking that by buying a 'pre-scratched' bike, I wouldnt have to worry about it getting scratched - its already done for me, and that way I just relax and enjoy riding it. Its worth a few bucks to remove the stress and worry.
Was surprised when the dealer offered to REDUCE the price due to a scratch on the tank....... ;)
Went ahead and pulled the trigger, picking it up at the end of next week. Yay!

Now I ask the group here: What are the essential items to owning/riding a VFR? It can be anything from riding boots to a tank bag to a cell phone or flat kit or reflective coat or rain suit. I have my own list, but anyone want to chime in on what they feel is a critical list of must haves?
(btw, this is about the 7th or 8th bike I have owned over the years and my second VFR (prior was a '00), but can always learn a trick/tip or two from others)

Bought a new, leftover '07, small scratch on the tank. $6499 +$100 setup +$100 handling fee. Purchased out of state, so title and taxes are my own to manage.
Jumping up to a '09 would have gotten me ABS, which I would have very much liked (just couldnt find a leftover '07 with the ABS), but would have also brought me around the $10k range, pretty big difference so I didnt overthink it and just pulled the trigger on the '07. And my budget isnt infinite at the moment, so will be happy to have a ride again......
