Self Introduction

I'll take a leaf out of Kev's book.
My name is Tom Grayson,
I live in Brisbane Australia. I have just started the purchasing process of a new Veefer, will not take delivery till the middle of April.
In my past life I have ridden almost all over Australia on a mix of bikes ranging from a HONDA SL350 to a 550 Super Sports.
Once I married and started a family, my bike riding ground to a stop.
Now my two girls are self sufficent and my son is living in his own home so I felt it was time to get back into my
original love of motorcycle riding.
I have done a fair bit of research on my own, on what would be a good bike for me, and after an encourageing conversation with a similarly aged stranger on an air flight, I settled on the VFR.
Given that it is nearly 30 years since I have done any serious riding, My first outing is going to be to a rider retraining program. Maybe they will teach me some new tricks, I will find out day after tomorrow. Wouldn't want to bend my new machine riding it out the dealer's door, Would I?
That's about It, I will post a pic of the new machine when I take delivery.

Congratulations on coming back to the sport TomG!
You will not be disapointed with the VFR, but take it easy at first. You may find them more comfortable than before. In any case, this site has gfeat info for maintenance if you want to do your own.

G'day Tom,
Just come back from a trip to Albany return on my 5th Gen, for the Ulysses AGM, and loved every minute of it. Very comfortable, much more so than some of the positions I've been in the week since detailing the bike back to respectable condition!

VFR group in Bris? - don't think so - nothing official anyway.

Vee-Ef-Ar and I took in a decent sized ride recently with plans for more soonest - be happy to include you if you're intersted. You might also cx-out the local Honda rider's club which I think does fairly regular group rides from one of the stealerships.

Note also that there's an OzVFR website which is ok (esp for local gouge) and has some good knowledgeable people but can be a bit 'sleepy' (really just a membership numbers thing) when compared to VFRD.

Re your new bike, did the salesperson try to steer you towards a 1200? Just wondering what their VFR sales 'tactics' (if any) might've been.

Re Group ride -:- The offer sounds good, but I will want to get settled into it for a bit first.

When I went to the shop I was actually checking out the 1200 when he came over. I think he thought I was going to jump on it.
But when I told him I was looking at the 800, The subject of the 1200 was pretty well dropped at that point.

Well Today I went along to the Team Moto Riding school for the day refresher.


I'll tell you what, Doing the Team Moto refresher is WELL WORTH IT. UNCONDITIONALLY.
Given that I haven't done more then drive a couple of bikes for a couple of minutes in the last 30 years, I was surprised at how quickly I re-learned the necessary skills as they were brought up. It probably would have taken a lot longer if I just jumped on a bike and tried to figure it all out myself, or maybe even a Stack or worse. Well spent $250, I think

I'm not in it so do not bother searching.
I used the Hyosung 650 shown here. It's good fun but, a little rough down low.

Yay, another Brisbane boy on a VFR - there is a few around, some even on this forum (there is a silver 6th gen I keep bumping into out in Wynnum/Manly, and a few others dotted about the place).

You'll love your new ride when you get it - I am surprised it's taking so much time to get it though, last I looked (and this was a few months ago, but still) a few of the dealers had a couple of stock. There was even an anniversary edition down at one of the Springwood dealers.

Let me know if you ever want some company when riding. The social side of bikes is one of the best parts of being on 2 wheels, and owning a VFR brings membership to a group of probably the friendliest group of riders around - just take a look at these forums to see what a great group this is. Sadly I cannot say the same for some of the local riding forums, but hey, everyone is welcome to act how they choose.

Oh, and be prepared to spend a lot of time/money playing with your new toy - there seems to be a never ending list of mods for these babies!
