Install bar end weights

When i had my bike towed, the strap they used on the left bar pulled the bar end and weight out about 1"...how far back should I be able to push it?  There is a little clip with fingers that look like they should be flush with the end of the bar, but that leaves a gap between the black bar end and the bar tube...more than looks correct.  Is it brute force to shove it back, or is there a way to release the tension to install it?

Anyone have pictures of how they install?

If you take the other one off you'll know how far they sit in...

It's working backwards that's making it a problem... You need to have the grip off to make it line up..... There are two holes in the bar for the clip to indent.... You might fish to find but with it being so hard to move, it will be a pain..... You can use air to remove grip... Or you can slide some zip-tyes in between the grip and the bar and and pull the grip off(4 z-tyes)equally spaced.....

OH... I forgot the reason it's hard to move is there's rubber inside(rubbing alcohol is the lub. of choice)... After you get the grips off.... Put on a pair of heavy gloves and pull the whole thing out.... Line up the indents with the holes, then right be fore you push it back in lub with the alcohol and push...

I will pull the grip again...I love air for that...hopefully the grip heater isn't blocking the view of the holes.  I am fairly certain I have them lined up ok, it just seems to stick out and the retaining fingers look like they shouldn't go inside the bar end.

Sorry, I don't know anything about how the heaters are installed, as far as being able to see.....

So how'd the bar ends work out?

Often there is no really easy way to work on these without a fight.

I changed out the bar ends last year and it was the biggest PITA.  Brute force, lube, pushing it out with compressed air are some of the suggestions I've heard.

Getting the clips out helps, but if you have any corrosion or dirt inside your bar end, you are in for the full "experience."

Well, I looked at it briefly...it is out about 1/4" too far at the very most...maybe 1/8" is all.  I think the biggest issue is/was the grip being somewhat compressed making it look worse that it is/was.

Sounds like it may be in place.... if it won't rotate cw it' should be locked into the indents.
