coolant mixture

Hope this isn't :beatdeadhorse: but:

After reading a lot of threads about how hot the engines run and reading about water wetter I'm thinking that 50/50 isn't the best mix. Water wetter states that in their dyno test:
50/50 produced a temp of 228
50/50 and water wetter produced a temp of 220
Straight water produced a temp of 220
Straight water and water wetter produced a temp of 202

They say at least 15% coolant should be run in street vehicles. I'm not worried about the system freezing (stored in heated garage). I'll ride below freezing but bike doesn't sit long enough to freeze so that isn't an issue. I don't want to run straight water due to antifreeze's anti-corrosive properties.

So my thought is 1 quart of honda's premix antifreeze (50/50) and the rest distilled water plus the recommended 3 oz of water wetter. Anyone think of anything I'm missing or a reason this wouldn't be good? Just trying to keep the temp down without giving up corrosion protection.

I totally agree with you.
No need to have antifreeze in there if it ain't gone freeze.
The only other reason for having the antifreeze is its lubricating of the water pump and I'm willing to venture that 15-20% of it would be enough to do that.
I am not sure if there is anything anti-corrosive to the antifreeze. The best corrosion protection is eliminating electrolytes, which is accomplished by using distilled water.
If I'm not lazy, I might change mine to the same mix.

If I remember my high school chemistry correctly, the more stuff you dissolve in water, the less efficient it becomes at conducting heat. Having said that, I'd have to see the experiment with distilled water vs. Water Wetter for myself before I believe their claims.

I believe their big claim is it breaks the surface tension of water. Like how you can float a penny on water as long as you don't break the surface tension. From what they say it increases the heat transfer of water which would make sense if you break the surface tension.

Try using Engine Ice. Your local shop probably has it in stock. No mixing or guess work. I run it in my 600 on the track as well as in my VFR.

What kind of improvement have you seen?

I'd buy it just b/c its biodegradable if nothing else.

Well, there's also boil over factor a 70 % mix of antifreeze is good to about 270degree, so many on here claim Boil over issue cause their watter wetter concoctions cant handle anywhere near that heat.

I run around 70 % ratio of prestone and distilled, max temp I never see over 225 degrees, and never see boil over. I'm in South Texas and dont get much hotter than that.

I never run anything biodegradble in my motors.

Bike seems to run about 5 to seven degrees cooler. Not much difference but if you are going to do the coolant system service it's worth the switch.
