I really just wanted to post up a little something as thanks to all those that contributed to the "6th Gen Shock Options" thread :-)) . The information contained within the thread really is excellent and helped me no end!!
After spotting the thread on here I started to consider the various options I had and ended up contacting Jamie Daughterty about a custom 929 shock for my UK ABS 6th Gen. He was extremely helpful and provided a superb experience from start to finish, even when I was asking all sorts of questions that I'm sure he's covered countless times in the past!! If you're considering using Jamie I have nothing but praise for both him and his work - the machining he carries out is first class.
Anyway, I've had the shock on my bike for a few weeks and it continues to put a rather large grin on my face each time I take the bike out :blush:
I have put together a write-up covering my install. Since completing the installation I have discovered that the compression adjuster can be reached without any modification to the bike - a long thin screwdriver does the trick :laughing6-hehe: . It is slightly obscured by a plastic panel but adjustment is perfectly possible if a little hard to see due to very limited clearance.
After running the bike with everything fully backed off (so as to get used to it over the stock OEM shock) I've now dialled in 1.5 turns of compression and 0.5 turns of rebound adjustment. Preload seems about right thanks to the 1200LB spring Jamie fitted up for me so I haven't played with that yet.....I also didn't want to change too much too soon.
