Question for Los Angeles riders

I commute from East to West LA a lot and I have to say, the West 10 from Cal State LA to 110 FWY is probably the worst stretch of freeway in America. Especially the interchange where the I-5 south meets up with the I-10 west - absolutely atrocious. I'm usually stuck splitting lanes between garbage trucks and cement mixers the whole way - which is probably the reason I almost never see any other motorcycles along this stretch with me ... I figure I must be the only one stupid enough to be out there on a bike!

I've started taking the 60 westbound instead through LA, dropping down either from the 605 or 710. Much much much cleaner route and the uphill right hander from the 10 west to 710 south is a thing of beauty...

Anyways, was wondering if other riders go out of their way to take the 60 instead, or if there's some other route I don't know about.

I don't think you have much of a choice, You just have to take the route that's most comfortable for you. I live close to Eagle Rock and use to work in OC. The shortest way for me is I-5 all the way, but I would usually take the 710 north to 10 west then back to I-5 so I wouldn't have to go through downtown. And sometimes I take the back roads from the 10 fwy so I wouldn't have to deal w/ traffic. I don't mind splitting lanes or lane sharing as they like to say, but that's the only area I get close calls. That's one of the reason I rarely ride to work.
