Took a leap of faith today and went to a free riding clinic hosted by Motocorsa Ducati in Portland - a one hour lecture on cornering technique following by a 50 to 100 mile group ride. I went not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. They have a theater style seating area with a demo bike and rider and two knowledgeable instructors. About 60 or so in attendance. Covered countersteer, body position, what to do if you run wide, etc. For the ride they split everyone in to 4 groups - cruisers, easy, moderate and fast pace. I joined the moderate pace group. The lead rider was great about setting a brisk (but not crazy fast) pace and accounting for all riders. Larry -great guy . . . took us through a bunch of interesting back roads through farm country I never would have found on my own. The ride ended at McMenamin's Grand Lodge, which is the Westside Portland version of McMenamins Edgefiled for any PacNW meet riders. All types/makes of bikes are welcome, though this is hosted by the Ducati Club of Portland. Well organized and very nice/accommodating folks. Saw everything from a few Harley's, BMW's, a couple of Triumphs but mostly Japanese bikes and of course a number of Duc's. Mine was the only VFR tho. They meet the first Sunday of the month (next is Sept 5) for anyone in the PDX / SW Wash. metro area if interested.

ps - even the Duc crowd's heads turned when the VTEC lit off (it's got a'market cans on it). You could see the "hey, hey Joe, what - what IS that??" on the faces . . . gotta love it.
