Hey guys, we finally picked up that 2002 VFR (the one advertised with the wireless ECU).

This is at the tail end of rainy season here, and close to year end, and since the guy received no other offers (non-BMW Sport touring bikers are rare here, and almost no one knows of VFRs), he lowered the price about 20%.

Long story short, now this joins my cousin's stable of 2 other bikes, a 650 Dakar, and a Yamaha whatsisname cruiser v-twin.
It seems this 02 unit already has a beefied-up wiring. I noticed a 30amp fuse holder in a circuit ouside the usual one.
His brother has a KLR but it doesn't count 'cause he doesn't join us on rides. Guy is crazy, plays in the mud on quads and just uses the thumper for city errands.

So, yeah!, I convinced his brother away from an F4 or Fazer1,

Now we can join that local sport touring group on rides, the ones with Triumph ST's. -But the main plan for when cousin Juan gets used to this, is to run up the coast to Mazatlan, then devil's backbone to Durango, then down Zacatecas' canyons.

Here are some pix;

yeh! thanks. Should've mentioned; All stock except for a Corbin lady seat (missing the backrest "lady" part, we'll have it custom made).
It has 25,000 miles, was originally sold in New Mexico. Has severe scalloping on the rear Metz tire (it had zero preload on both ends!)
Just a few scuffs on the left-side fairing.
Service receipts show a valve service at 16k miles. Chain seems to have had regular oilings, but needs adjustment asap.
Going to try to convince this guy to replace the stock exhaust for staintunes or equally awesome sounding items.

First likely outing will be up to Mazamitla in the nearby Sierra mnts. at 7k feet. by Friday since it's a long weekend for the 200th. celebration of Mexico's independence, and 100th. anniversary of its revolution. In case anyone wants to join in. Should be a great party!.

So the wireless ECU was not wireless after all?

tehee, no. I called the previous owner and he said it's a CB radio unit that he didn't bother to remove. so he just snipped the wires and it's there wedged under the seat frame. So the guy who imported it just renamed it. ha!. :pinocchio:
Also no ABS. Guy finally said "well the manual lists items about ABS.." yeah friend, it's a single manual for both models (facepalm)

So yesterday under a rainy sky we badgered him to death "needs new tires and chains man, and look it's almost year end no one wants an older bike, and look at this gorgeous roll of cash, -oh and you have a new baby? :idea3: I bet the Mr'ss said the bike had to go... here we are with trailer and all to give you a hand with that" :goofy: :goofy: :goofy:

Replying to myself here, but it just feels like I'll need therapy in the form of V4+twisties.

First day after we brought the 2nd VFR home. I had to defend it in so many ways and field so many questions I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!
Answers in " ( ) " :

-Why this, why not an F4 (same speed, but longer)
-This is not even a sport bike (google RC30, RC36, then come back quietly)
-If it's so great why isn't it sold here by Honda (Honda has 20 other models not sold here either. Paneuro, VT, Deauville, CB, Varadero)
-It's slower than a 600 (on what track do you want to bet and lose your 600)

oh gawd facepalm kill me already. yes southamerica buys 50cc scoots by the boatload but it doesn't mean it's because they're fantastic. Honda Mexico only imports 3 big bikes, and 2 of these only on special order, 2 of these are cruisers. You get the idea.

I need a tequila, in tequila, Ima gear up for this long weekend and love my V4 until inner peace is restored.

And this forum too. What's a group therapy session for?
