I have ridden about 500mi on my first VFR(not my first bike), a '99 with 19.5k miles, and I think I may be doing something wrong or I have a problem with 6th gear. I noticed pulling up into sixth, it sometimes seems to click twice and it is kind of nothchy. I really just noticed this today, on a mildly spirited ride, then on a straight stretch(70mph), I pulled the clutch in and pulled the shifter up (click click) then there was a clunk and as I was letting the clutch out, then engine reved but the transmission was in between 5th/6th. I pulled the clutch in and gave the shifter a bump up and it went in. So then I tried to simulate the problem and it wouldn't do it. I tried shifting with out the clutch and it seemed the same. I wasn't bangin' on it, just a regular upshift. What do you guys think? Are there any known problems or adjustments? No other problems with any other gears or noises what so ever. Thanks, Wesley

I noticed the same thing once. This thread allayed my fears:

Thanks, that helped alot. I rode it today and didn't have any problems until I tried to baby it. If I shift w/o the clutch it goes in well. I will consider the upgrade if it seems to get any worse. Thanks, Wesley

the exact thing used to happen to me. I fixed it by angling the shifter lever up a coupla notches. Only happens now on rare occaisions.

The secret to smooth positive shifting is you can't move your foot quick enough... go easy on the clutch and throttle but boot the shifter quickly...
