Thursday on the way to work, I entered the highway and cranked it down hard. When the bike hit VTEC it stood straight up, this has never happened before especially with my big A$$ on it. Should I be concerned or happy.. damn thing pulled like never before or since. Actually reminded me of my Old H2 Kaw. Due to family health issues I haven't ridden much for the last few months and wonder if that may be the cause of this hard acceleration?
Should I be concerned?

Sounds like a case of "over-exuberance of the right hand", caused by withered habits. Enjoy it before common sense and self-presevation kick back in.
I dont know about concern but I wonder what I was doing wrong before, by the way how much do I have to weight to make my bike do that ?
Hey Muff,
I wouldn't worry!
A few, Very few times some combination of circumstances (weather, throttle, gear, etc.) my VFR pulled it up like you said, kind of freaked me out and made me happy at the same time.
Afterwords I tried and re-tried to repeat it and it never would???

It sounds as though you may have spun the tire, and then had it hook up.
What do you think? Possible?

Am I the only one who wheelies their VFR on purpose?
I've been riding on the street for 20+ years now and sometimes I just can't help myself when I am on a long straight country road. BTW, I am 200+ lbs and my bike is completely stock. I guess that's what happens when you grow up riding 2 stroke dirt bikes. OK let the squid comments begin.

My cr 500 was a Great wheeli bike
what bailey said muff....every so often, i'll make a turn and roll on the gas and the front will just lift on me. first 3 times it scared me....now it just makes me
i try to repeat it, but have been unable to do it. it seems to occur when i roll on, not hammer the throttle, it seems to happen in 1st gear only and it seems to happen when i do this after making a turn (like at a stop sign/red light).

Dyno results show theat at wide open throttle in 1st gear the 6th gen has a 20 hp jump at the rear tire over about a 200 RPM increase when the VTEC kicks in. That's a pretty big jolt of power over a very short period of time, like a 20% of max power jump in a split second. I've read in a f ew places that this VTEC power spike in 1st gear is enough to bring the front wheel up.
I've got the front wheel up twice by accident. Both times it was over exuberance of the right hand coupled with dumping the clutch real fast with the left hand from a dead start. Scary and exhilerating at the same time.

May be squidly, but saves wear and tear on the front tire. Glass half full!
I am glad to hear the reports of others that have experienced the same thing. Thank for the dyno report, that put it in perspective. I will admit it did take me by surprise AND gave me a rush

Squidly? Hahaaa!! I hope not...sometimes (yesterday) I can't help my self, doesn't matter where I am. When the weather gets nice, and its warm, but not hot, my bike seems to wheelie easier.
I wheelie on purpose regularly. I like it. It's why I bought my first bike 26 years ago. And may be the main reason I love VFRs soooooo much. They wheelie very easily.
I like getting the wheel up on occasion but when it happens without intent it gets on my nerves.
Well, you do ride a VFR. Make sure you are gentle with the throttle. That's actually good advice with any bike. Good throttle control is a constant theme of books/videos like "a twist of the wrist" and track schools and such. I wheelied pretty hard leaving church today, not on purpose. Just in a hurry. Nice crosswind brought me towards the ditch. Stuff happens on a bike a lot...you should go do a bunch of wheelies to get comfortable! You should be able to get to second gear fairly easily, and I have seen talented riders (on my 90, at my behest) wheelie the bike through 6th on the back wheel! I can do 2 gears usually. And went to 5th on an 86 yamaha FZ750 (5 valve Genesis head, stage 3 jet kit, Yosh pipe), but never that far on the VFR. It doesn't pull like that FZ. But, either get comfortable with it, or train your wrist to *never* do those types of shenanigans!
Sorry it got on your nerves.
Cheers!

My 2007 will wheelie in 1st gear solely on the VTEC engagement when I roll the throttle on. I do not need to lift the bars at all. Be aware of it and then enjoy it when ever you want to. Just another feature offered by the VTEC team! :fing02:

I like to wheelie in 3rd or 4th gear off the top of a small rise in the road when coming into the powerband. Then, gently set it back down. No clutch is used in this instance. When done properly, it is quite nice.

What if I'm pretty new to bikes (started riding spring 2008)? Never rode dirt bikes either. I think it would be cool to know how, but too chicken with the power and weight of the VFR. Also, is there any concern for the fork seals with frequent wheelies? How do you learn pull wheelies without much risk?

The only surefire way to limit risk...don't get on. But then that wouldn't be any fun, would it?

Dropping your VFR even at only 5 mph can cost several thousand to fix, a naked bike work be a better choice IMO.
Like they said. If you can try it on a dirt bike a few times it will become easier. If you can't then i say find a large warehouse industrial area on a weekend as they are pretty well abandoned on Saturdays and Sundays. Practice to your hearts content. Frame sliders might need to be in your bikes near future.
every once in awhile i forget to down shift at a red light.... i did a moon shot in 4th gear when the light turned green
my pals thought i was showing off.. i am just lucky i didnt flip it.

I'll sometimes get an "accidental" wheelie. Seems to go along with letting off the gas then whacking it back open at moderate RPMs.
I think they made this a "crime" a while back.
