Newb, sayin' hi!

Hey folks, I am coming off a 2005 Ducati S2R, but found it to be a bit of a handfull trying to ride smooth. I loved the look and sound, but needed something a little more substantial and refined.

My main motivation for changing was to get a bike that I could ride two-up more comfortably. My wife is amped on riding but we didn't get much seat time in on the duc because it was just to nerve-racking for both of us. So...

I am kind of a Honda freak so it made a lot more sense having a 2-wheeled Honda in my stable.

The wife and I already knocked out a 160 mile ride. It was really nice for both right off the bat but we thing a trunk would make a big difference in comfort for her, and storage for our helmets when parked.

I also like tweaking my stuff a bit (the CRX is a formerly turbocharged right-hand drive 1985, and the TSX is my company vehicle. I tune Acuras for my side business). The VFR has me itching to mod stuff but I am really not sure what to do. The heli bars seem like they'd make the ride a lot more comfy. So would dropping the pegs, although I am getting comfortable leaning and am hesitant to drop the pegs. Anyway, I think the one thing this bike really needs is some flashier wheels. I am thinking of a bronze anodize and an 8-spoker. It already has a two-brothers titan slip on, PC, throttle-meister, and smoked double-bubble screen.

So anyway, that's me.

Welcome to VFR madness. I am sure you will love this forum and the Honda. I am secretly a lover of Italian bikes as I rode a Laverda years ago, but the VFR is positively the best bike i've ever had! Enjoy!

I had a Duc Monster b4 my Viffer too - I don't regret making the change but I do miss my pretty little Italian V2 :blush:

As for the sound, nothing a set of aftermarket pipes cannot cure........ (won't be V2 like but still...)

Welcome and yes Ducati's are great sounding bikes but VFR's sound good and they do everything well. Have fun.

1st Gen CRX I see. If it's clean you have a rare gem there. I have had a couple of 2nd Gen CRX's in my time and love those cars but decided that working on motorcycles are more fun in the end so gave up tinkering with the cars. Always have a lot of respect for those who know how to tune them though. :fing02:

I can't take all the credit. I found this bike on accident at a Ducati/Triumph dealer while looking at Sprint GTs, which frankly I would have bought had this bike not been half as much. Not sure if I would have liked it more but the VFR gets a heck of a lot of attention. I snapped a neck during my test ride because of the mean rumble and I was SOLD.

True, actually the bike as a Two-brothers titan slip-on. (piece of info on me, my brother in law is an avid mountain biker and rode regularly with the son of one of the "two brothers" of Two Brothers. Six degrees of separation has to be true)

Thanks for noticing. This car is actually a right hand drive model, originally imported and owned by none other than Oscar Jackson (of Jackson Racing). If you know who that is you can probably appreciate my euphoria owning it. He fully upgraded the suspension, and boosted it as well. Currently I am redoing it.







Speaking of cool wifes...mine just informed me that in 4 months when she pays off her car I am getting a little bike spending money! I am thinking seat, clipons, and an 8-spoker.

Welcome, nice bike. As far as thinking about lowering the pegs, you can lower them and take the feelers off and you haven't lost any turn clearance.

Welcome. As for anodizing the wheels, beware that they are cast aluminum and will not anodize well. They will turn out muddy looking and the finish will be shite.

You are better off looking for the colour you want, and approximating it with powder coat.


Anodizing FORGED wheels would be fine, as the alloy used in the forgings is pure, and takes well.

Cast Al like the japanese use for wheels has a lot of "other" metals in it, results not worth it.


If I were you, I'd go with white wheels and a red front fender to match your stripes.

Oh I've heard of Jackson Racing. That's a sweet deal then. You should go to CRXCommunity.com and post up there. You would definitely have a following in no time.


And I hear you on the cool wife aspect when she will let you invest in your hobbies. Some other farkles should include a voltmeter, VFRness, and possibly a PCV if you plan on swapping out the stock exhaust. :fing02:

Shite. Thanks for the info :/ kind of a bummer tho. I don't mind powdercoat but ano has such a neat finish. Maybe I can get a bronze coat in a flatter finish or texture.

White wheels is classic but I want to up the race quotient without getting a sore back cleaning every weekend.

Hey it's good to welcome a local rider to this board. I love the Ducati motor and sound without qualification. VFR has a pretty sweet note itself. Hope to see you on a ride soon.

Welcome. All those mods you mention will be great. But as you become accustom to your ride nothing will make you love the ride quality more than upgrading the suspension ( especially for two up duty). It feels fine and new now but read the related forum pages and you'll see.
Not a cheap commitment $$$.
+1 on the top box for pillion comfort and storage.
