I'll post a better intro and pics later, but I have a quick question. Does the Ram mount RAM-B-309-2U work with the bike? I had them on an Aprilia and liked the location.
I'm pretty sure that it does. I have one on my 5th gen, but I dont know the part number. also on at least a 5th gen, it works on the front gas tank hold down bolt holes.
I believe the tank mount ball (which I have and like very much) is the RAM-B-231 at the site you linked to in the OP. Toss the U-bolt and get slightly longer tank bolts. I couldn't find black bolts though.

I just mounted the single ball version on my 2008.
First I tried to remove the back side of the clutch lever clamp and replace it with the RAM mount.
The supplied bolts were way too long. Then I decided to leave the clutch clamp intact and put
the Ram mount up against the rear half of the clutch mount. The supplied bolts were still about
a half inch long so they needed cut down.
Looks and works great. I replaced the 3" arm with a 2" arm which seems to work a lot better
with the Nuvi 550.
Now I need to order the Powerlet steering head outlet and the mini-usb power pack.
