2007 VFR800: A couple of times last year the coolant temp shot up to about 225F without the fan coming on. I got stuck at the tolls once and the temp went to about 260 before I could safely get of the road (no boil over). Cooled down and the fan worked (and I changed the oil as soon as I got home). Brought it to the dealer and of course it worked fine as it did for the rest of the year. Happened again last week but the fan never came after cooling! I just changed the radiator temp switch and now the fan does comes on. When the temp got to about 210 the engine had a slight knock... goes away when the temp drops. Should I be worried!!!! I suppose there's nothing I can do about it anyways.... I am draining the oil as i type.
Should have change the damm switch a long time ago.
Update: its back together. Fan comes on about 215. At about 205 the engine has a more "mechanical" sound..not a piston knock per se. Ride it and forget it......
i ALWAYS add a manual on off switch to my fan. as i live around major cities that get hit with mega traffic jams
its a simple thing to do.
find the power wire to thermostat switch on the rad .. splice in a wire.. and that wire will go to a toggle.. so make it long as you need it. then splice a wire to your "Power to fan " wire.. and run that to the toggle.. and presto.. your temp switch is still there.. and you can turn on the fan whenever you want. :fing02:

Yeah, I was just drawing that out. The temp sw is a ground so I think I will just run a toggle switch in parallel of the spade plug I am thinking of installing the switch on the inner left fairing. Where did you mount yours?
on my 93 i installed it on the dash.. drilled a hole through the side and added a "push" on /off button. on the 87 i putt a toggle under the tank. on the gsxr put a radio knob in the key switch hole.. as the switch was relocated..
