Slight throttle popping noise

Yesterday I decided to do the flapper valve mod when I replaced my OEM filter with a K&N one.

Today, I noticed a popping noise coming from under the gas tank at the steering head bearing-- thats where it sounds like it's coming from.  The noise is only apparent when I put a little bit and I mean the tiniest bit of twist on the throttle.. it's a couple of pops and then goes away.. it's only apparent at rpm engine speed just about 100rpms from idle.

This noise is apparent in gear or in neutral.. the only thing that I left under the tank was the hose after I plugged it.  I only used electrical tape wrapped a few times to test it out.. I'm assuming this popping noise isn't normal as I didn't find any threads with it!

Any ideas?  Tomorrow I plan to reverse the flapper valve mod to see if it goes away, but for now, that's the last mod I did before it came about.

Most probably the PAIR valve solenoid operating.

:+1:   Sounds like the PAIR valve solenoid to me too.

Ahh.. so for some reason the solenoid becomes louder without the flapper valve functioning?

I'll be disabling that today then !!

Thanks guys :)

Done and done!  Disabled the PAIR valve and the popping has since gone.

Next step is to remove all that plumbing!!

Did you have Idle issues after you depaired?  Mine doesn't seem to want to idle right when the engine is cold after I de-flapped and de-paired.

Messing with PAIR will require raising the idle.

I did up the idle when it was warm, but it seems to idle low during warmup now. Runs great when warm though.  It has a ton less surging issues without them.

You know, I've heard that noise from the moment I got mine. Bought it new. I thought it was normal. I have 20,000 on it now and I haven't had any problems. Is there something I need to do?
