Brake issue

Hey all. I recently purchased an 02 and loving it. Ive had many bikes in the past and they all have been super sports. I also have a 08 1000rr as a track bike so im not sure if Im just spoiled by the performance.

The vfr's handling ia phenomenal. I just had some gripes with the brakes so I replaced the front pads with galfers and bled the front lines. It seem to have lost overall braking power. Initial bite is good but then it feels like wood. It doesnt feel spongy like there is air in the system. I also lightly scored and cleaned the rotors. Im aware of the procedure honda requires to bleed the system; but what if i just did the front? Am I suppose to bleed the whole system because of the linked brakes?

I have no experience with Galfer's pads but in general I reccomend HH sintered pads all the way around. Unless you somehow introduced air into the system when you changed the pads there is no reason you should have to bleed them outside of regular maintenance cause the fluid is old. From what it sounds like you don't have hard enough pads and they are "fading" once they get hot. HH sintered pads tend to bite better as they get hotter.

What type of galfer pads?

they have several different types of pad material, sounds like the wrong one for quick stopping.

As long as your lever feels good, just, its like wood, probably just the pad type.

The pads are the black, organics. I think I should have opted for the sintered. Initial bite is better than stock. Though after a spirited down hill run the brakes fade aggressivley. I think ill put he stock pads in.

You can try the Galfer ceramic HH grade, but Ive not used them on the vfr front , from what ive seen generally less pad material thickness. The EBC full sinterpad are probably the strongest Braking power. Stock ones are also HH rated but, EBC have even more metal in them.

Your bike wasnt delinked was it? that would also kill braking power

No I didnt delink the brakes. But I did bleed the fronts the standard way. I didnt or at least don`t think I introduced air into the system.

Seems like I made the wrong choice in pads.

new pads will time to seat in...usually 100miles. take the pads out and see the wear - it should be even. - again new pads take time.

Another vote for ebc or galfer HH pads!!!!
Been using them for years and very happy!

Do the rears to match for 100% improvement!

FYI: The stock pads on my 07 were HH rated and I hated them. I put some EBC Organic pads in there and the braking performance and feel is much improved.

Thanks for the suggestions. The brakes are starting to break in and get better stopping power. either that or Ive been getting accustomed to it. My next purchase are going to be sintered pads
