My 6th gen has some noise coming from the chain. I can tell it has a tight spot because when I ride slow I can hear a pinching noise. Also when I start in first gear, I get a rattling type of noise. It kind of sounds like something is moving around in the plastics, in a circular motion. Nothing is loose in there. Could this be the chain making noise under the front sprocket cover?
Are there any known problems on 6th gens like this or anything else that could be making this circular noise?
For the chain, do I need to replace it right away or can I fix this? Can I leave it for a bit? Thanks.
I would do a hands on check of the chain. Put your bike on the c-stand lie down next to the chain with a tape measure and check the play(1&1/4" to 1&1/2') about every 10 links to see if it's consistant in play. Pull on the chain from the rear of the sprocket(if it pulls away, replace).
If the chain is newish you might be able to lube and work by hand to loosen it up(the chain will have to be slacked to work it).

To work it by hand you'd need to loosen the chain(pinch bolt & spanner). Then actually move each link to it's max directional limits over and over, and this will or won't change anything.
But with the added info that you have 25k on the chain would suggest you need a new chain and sprockets
How long can I go with my chain in the shape it's in currently? I'll replace it if it needs replacing but I may need a little time since I just spent a chunk on a 9 day adventure. (ride report to come)

That's hard to tell without seeing it in person.... pull on the chain from the back with your hand, try pulling it away from the sprocket, if it's tight that's a good thing...Then turn by hand and watch the whole length of the chain go around the rear sprocket to see if it stays to form as it goes around.

when the chain begins drying out and rusting internally, links will bind up, thats probably your issue
find those bad links cut out one side of the oring a force lube in there
