Windscreens

My VFR is almost back together after being down for months. Time to decide on windscreen. I had a Givi, I even stuck a Laminar Lip on top of that and the wind blast and noise was pretty bad. I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about the Zero Gravity or the Vario something shield or any other brands you may have used. Thank you for any input.

I have a ZG Sport Touring shield in dark smoke with a Micro-swirl strip (see link). screen makes the sir stream hit me in about the visor and the Micro-swirl gets rid of the buffeting... makes a difference, and it's not as noticeable on the dark screen.

I have the stock screen, and also a Vario touring.

The Vario was a very minor improvement. Its been ridden twice - and now that you mention it I would be willing to part with it if anyone interested.

Then I cut about 3" off the stock screen and MUCH prefer it. Lowered where the slip stream hit me to about shoulder level - less buffeting, less noise.

I have been modifying my windscreens for years now.I usually go to Home Depot and get some Lexan and up the height to the point were there is no buffeting whatsoever,right about eye level.I use a little duct tape and bolts but riding is silent and smooth.It might look a little gawdy sitting still but I'm always riding so who cares.

install is easy
fit is not as good as the OEM.

Using MRA double Bubble....easy to install......it does look a bit like the ZG one.

Maicoman - any chance you could post a pic?? (I would love to get a smooth airstream and sit behind a screen, but so far havent figured out how....).

I had a puig touring screen that was good ... A zg st screen that i hated (wind hit me like a knife at throat level and kept trying to lift my helmet off)
Then bought a zg double bubble and love it

I currently have the MRA vario touring screen which is a nice balance between looks and wind protection. I find all the taller screens are a little noisier than stock. I had the Givi touring screen which was excellent for wind protection, but is fairly large. Your torso height and whether you use helibars or other bar rises will make a difference as to what you feel. For less buffeting get as short as a screen as you will tolerate.

LOL. nice catch. I was also installing a fuse box under the seat to power my GPS.

I had a ZG DB in smoke. Looked good, but hated how the wind hit me at the base of the helmet.

Replaced that with a MRA Touring Vario and have been quite pleased with it. Virtually stock profile with the spoiler down, but a pretty good bubble when its up.

I'm 6'2" with a 34in inseam and have Helibars for reference.

That screen does look pretty cool.
The DB section looks good, suppose it would sit pretty high wouldnt it?

My $.02. I ordered the ZG dblbbl a few months ago. Wanted it just in time for my trip to TMAC. The day it arrived I ripped into the plastic to oogle my new purchase. Wasted no time heading to the garage to unfasten the FOUR (it's uppercase cause it's important and I'll get to it I'm a sec) screws that need to be removed to free the stock screen. Pull stock out, hold up alongside ZG to make sure everything lines up: angles, size, and placement of the four O rings that are molded in the stock plastic for the screws to go through. That's when I realized someone in R&D at ZG decided little (and very fragile) C clips would suffice in place of the lower O rings, in which the lower screws are meant to go through. Understand, apart from helping to hold those little triangle dash pieces, the screws now are pointless. Hopefully they have no contact with the little C clip they're meant to hold, because if they do, a gentle hand tightening will snap it right off. Though it didn't happen for my install, it's an obvious and foreseeable conclusion. Yeah, your $80 something piece of plastic was so poorly designed as to only be held on by two screws. The first thing noticed is it fits like crap. Gaps between the screen an fairings that weren't there with the stock. Second thing noticed was at about 110 mph. No part of your screen should vibrate to the point it scares you. It wasn't a dramatic vibration or violent shudder, but it was enough to scare the hell out of me. Easy for me to see that given enough time with above average stresses this thing could easily fail. Needless to say, I'm now riding with a stock screen. ZG got repacked and sent back the same day. 3 weeks ago I ordered a MRA spoilerscreen from twistedthrottle.com. It won't be shipped till 7/11. Never even seen one on s 6th gen (except the picture online when ordering) and yet to find anyone who's had one and can provide feedback as to it's performance. I'll update as soon as it's installed and tested!

Final thought: ZG seems to have neglected spending any time, money, or thought in producing a screen for our 6th gens. Your money is better spent with a company that made sure they're product is worth the money being spent.
