06 Surging??

I have an 06 with 75000 miles on the clock. The bike has been flawless all those miles. Suddenly I have noticed a bad surging with a constant throttle around 5k RPMs.Happens at any speed. Under hard power the bike runs great. No check engine light..Is there anything I should be checking??

You think maybe your fuel injectors are getting clogged up, thats really lean area, so any loss of fuel, should really show up there.

also how long your plugs been in there

You think maybe your fuel injectors are getting clogged up, thats really lean area, so any loss of fuel, should really show up there.

also how long your plugs been in there



At 75k, a new fuel filter wouldn't hurt either.

Could be a number of things but I would start with the simple first:
1. if has only happened on 1 tank of fuel, might be simply that tank was bad fuel.
2. change out the plugs & have a starter valve balance done.

Secondly the CAT in the headers with high miles can cause problems if restricting exhaust gas more than normal.

Try a good fuel additive like Chevron Techron. Pour a bottle in your tank before fill up. That would be cheap and easy, and might just be the solution to your problem.

I need to know if this is a stock bike (LIST ALL CHANGES FROM STOCK!) and if you still have the O2 sensors conencted. At 75,000 miles you're talking when O2 sensors can start to get funky and give bad readings, especially if they have been contaminated with silicone. It doesn't always happen at these miles, but 100,000KM is a common time to replace O2 sensors in cars. Most people leave them until the car runs like a bag of crap, but in the case of cars this can be easily diagnosed based on data from the OBDII diagnostics in their ECU, which us lucky Honda owners don't get.

Dodgy O2 sensors can be easily checked. Disconnect your O2 sensors and - ignoring the FI light which will obviously appear - go for a few rides to see if the problem is gone. If you don't like the FI light, you can fit some O2 eliminators buy either buying them from Dynojet or just buying some cheap 330 ohm 4-watt resistors from an electronics store. You jam these into the O2 sensor plug heater wires that lead to the ECU and it stops the error light.

After that, come back and let us know the results! Unless you already have O2 eliminators, in which case we can move on to something else already.

Stupid question time, but you didn't change sprockets or the such and add a Speedohealer to your bike by chance did you?

Ok the bike is completly stock except for a set of Leo Vince slip ons. I have tried the Techron thing. still does it. Yes I have changed the rear sprocket but I put the stock size back on. The plugs are some what new. I put them in at 65K I have not done a fuel filter though. The bike still gets great gas milage +40 mpg. I do have a set of O2 sensors elimators. I will try that. Also I have not balanced the starter valves

Go through the normal start routine (key on, switch on, fuel system primed) but do not start the bike. Turn the key off, then hold down the starter and turn the key back on. The bike should be running as the guages all run through their little sequence. I had surging issues on mine even after disabling the O2 sensors, but this seems to clear it up and she runs like a champ.

Youve opened up the exhaust, so its going to lean it out, you can try the elminators first , but your going need a PCommander, more than likely and a map that works

Well I have had the exhaust on for at least 60k miles and the surging just started. I dont think it needs a power commander for this issue

You know there's a tad of mild surging even stock, at that 1'8th throttle location around 5 grand, id expect it to be worse with opened exhaust, add in fuel supply changes, or degrade of fuel injectors, maybe it threw it off worse. Stock airfilter?

I dont know how bad your surge really is, you might try also blocking the pair valve

I once had a bike Jetted on the lean side, it worked perfect all summer, come the fall cooler temps and fuel supply change to winter gas, I had to rejet, cause it was bad surging. I really think it was the fuel supply change more than milder weather.
