I just couldn't wait anymore and decided to start the process of taking off the blue plastic and getting all the parts I need to put my RWB back like she came from the factory. I am trying to decide wether or not to leave the PCIII on the bike. I have searched many past posts and threads so I hope I am not beating a dead horse. If I understand how it works it just over rides the bikes ECU with its own program for fuel delivery. I still have not read anywhere if it changes ignition timing or not. I know that these bikes are notorious for running lean so I am swaying on the side of keeping it on the bike. I am putting the stock exhaust system back on the bike so if I read the information right I can just chose a map that is set up for factory exhaust with factory air filter and should be dialed in pretty close there. Also, if I want to run the factory mapping I could chose the zero map. I hope that is right. However, I did not get a program cd or any instruction manuals when I bought the bike. Maybe someone out there has an extra they could part with? Anyway, all input and help would be appreciated.

Edit: I also read about turning the key off and back on to keep the ECU from going into closed loop but I don't think that applies when running a PCIII. Also, I have read about using O2 sensor plugs but I would think that the PCIII would want to run with the O2 sensors so it would know that it was at its desired A/F ratio. Am I completely lost??????

i had a PCIII on mine and i ended up taking it off , i was loosing almost 100km per tank , for me it didnt warrent the little bit of performance for the huge change in fuel milage . i found changing the exhaust and going to a BMC air filter made more differance then the PC... thats just my 2 cents anyway

Its not just this bike, but all bikes that come EPA off the floor, maybe the issue shows up more in a vfr4, Now Im totally stock engine and exhaust, never done the valves, and its smooth as SILK at 90,000 miles.

There was some real querkiness in the early miles, less than 5,000. By 15,000 mile, a saw a big change, oil began running cleaner too, and once over seventyfive thousand, just keeps getting better.

HG,
I put PCIIs on both of my 5th gens mostly because I added aftermarket exhausts and didn't want them running too lean with the factory ECU. I think to really get the best results with them they need to be dyno tuned. One of mine was but the other wasn't. Hard to tell the difference and I removed the whole setup from one of the bikes to get the mileage back up. One of our members came up with an excellent "universal" map for the vtecs but I can't remember his name. It got a mention in Motorcyclist magazine when they did a road test on a 6th gen a few years back. Some one will be able to be more helpfull on this. The 6th gens are not my strong suit.

the PC3 doesnt override the ECU, it just modifies the fuel delivery of the standard ECU map accordind to the entries in the cells.
If you run a zero map it is effectively doing nothing but because the 02 sensors are not operating it cant go into closed loop.
If you want to restore it to original, unplug the PC3 and reconnect the o2 sensors and then you may realise why it was done in the first place.

I can only get 38 mpg on this one where I get 44 on my 98. I know it is not a big difference but I can tell you that this bike runs very rich. Standing behind it you can really smell the fuel coming out of the exhaust when it is running. Just picked up a factory exhaust and getting it ready to go back on the bike. As soon as I do this I may take it off just to see how well it runs without the PC. However, I did see where they have a map for the stock bike that just ups the fuel ratio a little so I am still unsure about losing it. Trying to find a set-up disc so I can actually read what all can be done with this system but no luck yet. Anyone got an extra disc?

You can download all the info from the dynojet web site

Power commander III and V do not alter ignition timing on VFRs as they did not create a timing module for our bike. If your bike doesn't have poor throttle response there's not huge benefits to having a Power commander.

Thanks for all the information guys. Looks like I will pull the PCIII just to see how it runs without it.
