Any experience with Tech Spec tank grips?

Looking to get some tank grips on the bike, but the Stomp Grips seem a bit too 'racey' for me. I was wondering if anyone has tried Tech Spec's tank grips and had anything to say, positive or negative. I'm specifically looking for any opinions regarding the different textures and their functionality. From an aesthetic standpoint, I like the 'High Fusion' since it's not as 'racey', but I could be swayed if the other textures function better.

Contact them and they'll send you free samples of their 3 types of grips - it helped me determine what I wanted. They also sell it in sheets if you want to cut a custom shape (not cheap tho). I do find it makes me feel more connected to the tank and gets weight off my wrists. YMMV.

I have used both & can say 100% the tech spec are the better product hands down. The stomp grips tend to move around when they get very hot like your bike is in direct sun light, the tech spec don't.

I have always followed the correct procedure for sticking on both & have had stomp grip just fall off tank in extreme hot weather, never had that problem since changing to tech spec, all mine have been fitted to sportsbikes.

You can see tech spec on my CBR, I use a Bagster tank cover on my VFR.

I went with the stomp grips. I've had them on for years, race bikes and both vfrs. I ride year round, and they haven't moved a bit (maybe I'm not in a warm enough climate?). I've found that extra care in application goes along way to making them stick.

I have had the Tech Spec kit on my bike for better than twenty thousand miles. Originally what they shipped me would not stick to he tank, the adhesive remained on the paper, not the rubber. It took a couple of tries, but they got me a set, in "snake skin" that completely delivers everything promised. When I wear these out, I will buy more.
The bottom line of this is that hey have a great product, and friendly service.

I've used TechSpec on both my FZ6 and VFR. Love the stuff and is very easy to work with!! The guys at Techspec are also great to deal with and stand by their product.

I've tried both the Snake Skin (FZ6) and their High Fusion (VFR) material. The Snake Skin material is quite thick compared to the High Fusion. See the pics below for the differences.

Here's an alternative I stumbled on to for a good tank grip, especially if you really don't like the look of the big stick-on pads out there
It's a bumper rub strip for a car, this one made by "Fizz" from Japan (who also happen to make motorcycle accessories).
I really just put it on to protect the tank's paint from abrasion from my pants, but then I was suprised how well it works to grab on to my pant leg material and lock in my outboard leg when hanging off. what made it possible is the rubber material for the rub strip just happen to be soft/tacky enough to do so. As long as it is thick enough like this one, the rub strip creates a ledge for you knee to hook on to. Enough of a edge to do so, but also not so hard and rounded enough in profile that it does not hort my knees after many miles in the twisties or straights. One should be able to find an equivalent in most car accessory stores (I got mine during a trip to the far east). Trick is to find one that looks OK on the bike as there are a lot of very flashy, boy racer themed ones out there too.

BonemanVFR, since you have experience with a few of the different textures they offer, what is your $.02 on the grip difference between them? I'm leaning towards the High Fusion, but if there is an appreciable difference in grip between it and the other two types, I could be swayed.

I have the snake skins on mines and loved the looks and feel of it. I decided against the high fusion because it looked similar to the spray rubber coating they put on truck beds. I also have the c3 on the rc51. Quite honestly they both work very well at the tracks and carving back roads. I can't tell the diffrence maybe the c3 is thinner?? you can't go wrong with anyone. I prefer techspec then stompgrips, techspec are easier to apply and won't rash up the leathers like stompgrips. looks better too.

go the tech spec, great stuff but be warned it is a bit abrasive on your leathers if you move around a lot on the bike

I just had a set made plus the one at the rear center of the tank in the C3 material. I made my own pattern and they did a nice job of cutting them. If you like what I have, I can provide the invoice number from my order and they can copy them.

I like it. It cushions the tank some, provides additional grip, and now that its turning colder, it insulates your knees from the cold tank.

I warmed the material and the tank a little with a heat gun after cleaning the wax from the areas and they went on smoothly and easily.

I put the thickest set on (snakeskin I think) about 10,000 miles ago and couldn't be happier. My motivation was vibration minimization through the tank. They work great for that with the thicker rubber. I just squeeze the knees lightly to the tank under braking and haven't rammed any of my favorite parts into the tank since.

They also provide a more secure feeling when cornering, with the outside knee gripping the textured rubber. Next to the VFRness, it's the best low-priced mod I've found.

I have the stomp grips on my VFR and they look and work great but wear on your leathers. I had the Tech Spec in shsrk skin? on my CBR954r and they provided very little traction IMO. It may be they harden over time. They came on the bike when I bought it.

My Tuono has a tank perfectly sculpted to where the tank grips seem less needed. I'd only buy Stomp Grips for my sporty bikes.

I have the Tech Spec tank grips om my r6. I love them. Thanks for reminding me to get them for the vfr.
