Now I know why most run a PCIII

Picked up another 07 RWB for my wife yesterday (pics will be poste later today). The 07 that I bought a few months ago had a PCIII installed when I bought it. The difference between the two are night and day. Mine is smooth as slik. No matter where the throttle is at or what gear you are in the bike just runs well. This one however, I must say, OMG. Running down the highway it seems to run smooth but it feels weird. When driving through a parking lot if you barely have the throttle open it feels like it is just dead. It also has the dreaded stutter/jerking problem at slow speed under partial throttle. Guess it is time to order a PCIII for this one.

Howdy,

Just a thought-
Might want to try some FI cleaner, and run he tank through it, without shifting any higher than third gear. What do they call that, "An I-tally-Ann Tune up"

The ride from Haslet to home is about 190 miles. Filled up in Haslet and put about 10 ounces of Lucas fuel treatment/cleaner in the tank. That should have cleaned it out on the ride home.

that sucks
plus now you got me thinking.....what am I missing out on with this whole power commander thing....

did you swap your plastics back yet and when are we going to see some pics of those beauties side by side?

Would this be a good time to experiment with a couple of mods that have mixed reviews?

1. Disabling the PAIR valves

2. Using the multiple boot start up procedure

The Pair valve mod can be done in 10 minutes and reversed in about the same

The start up procedure adds about 3 seconds to a normal start up

You have the experience with both good running and not so good running machines and seem like the ideal test supject.

Got the PCIII and O2 sensor plugs ordered. Will run them first and let everyone know how it does. I can tell you that this bike is running super lean. At 4,100 miles there should be some amount of black, soot build up in the exhaust. This one is clean as a whistle. That is why the PCIII will be my starting point. Forgot to add that it is running a Remus exhaust with no PC. I am sure this is a contributing factor.

That will probably take care of your problem areas, but the PC seems to be a proven solution.
The PAIR valve disabling and the start procedure have lots of mixed opinions.

Obviously, it's your choice and the PC being a proven solution, it is a good choice. It just would have been interesting to get another opinion on the two things I mentioned.

Just figured to take care of the "Kaboom" problem first. Even all the 5th Gen's I owned would have black soot in the outlet of the can so I know this needs to be addressed first. From there I can do the other mods a my leisure.

And that's great, but the PAIR valve and the start procedure probably won't be needed or make any difference after the PC installation.

Yup, that's why mine needed the pcIII too--stumble mostly, so it improves in driveability at low speeds. Let us know how she runs afterwards. From what I've heard, some bikes need it, some just don't. Luck of the draw I guess, but an easy fix to get a prefect bike.

I haven't kept up on the relevant threads, but have you thought about a PCV instead? Not sure how different they are. One more thing, for an '06+, what map would you run since coszye's designed for the '02-'06?? The default one?? A custom one??

Great purchase!!

Good luck!

Just figured to run the one from PowerCommander.

Is you is or is you ain't sure that the chain is adjusted properly. A loose chain will cause jerkin' and surgin'

Chain is lubed properly and adjusted to about 3/4" of slack. About where I run all my others.

If anything, that seems a little tight.
My 2004 Owner's Manual recommends 1" to 1-3/8" of slack. (25mm to 35mm)
I run mine at the loose end of the recommended slack and the only time I have any jerkiness in the driveline, it's because of sloppy clutch or throttle control on my part.
Since you have been doing the 3/4" slack on your other chain drive machines, it must work for you.

Ones 3/4" can be anothers 1&1/4", but that's hard to 'splain without a drawing.

I think it's just as likely that some owners notice/care, and some don't.

Sometimes my (stock) bike is atrocious below 3,000 rpm, depending on weather, engine temp, oil viscosity, and moon phase.

I've found the best fix is... stay above 3,000 rpm. :fing02:

Well put. I am just guessing at my measurements but it is probably closer to 1" if I was to actually measure it. Kinda of like the throttle play adjustment. You just know it is right when it is right. Not flopping around but not tight enough that there is no slack.

90k miles on my stock 02, never needed a PC3 yet. If I modded the bike I would run one though.

Well, BR, no stumbling when you're always above 8000 rpm, right?!? --I mean this in a good way, really. :fing02:

You are my new hero. Two '07 RWBs within a few months of each other? :fing02: You know, Christmas IS coming up and I do love the RWB...

Hey huntingguns, I'm kinda curious to know if the multi start-cycle thing does anything for you. Would you mind trying it just for our sake? With the bike in neutral, and the kill switch set to "Run", turn the key on and let the fuel pump run through its prime cycle. Once it's done, turn the kill switch off, and right back on again, and start the bike right after you flip the switch to run. Then go ride 20-50 miles and let us know if you notice the bike behaving any differently.

Pretty please?

That's a nifty OEM titanium exhaust you've got there Kev.

Rain all day today and some on Tuesday. I will do it Wednesday for the sake of the forum and let everyone know. Just to be sure I understand what you need, with the bike in neutral and the kill switch in the run position, turn the key on and wait for the priming cycle to finish. Leaving the key on when the priming cycle is finished just flip the kill switch to off and then back to run and then start the bike. Is this correct?

Kind of what I thought. I need to find a couple of those OE exhausts. It looks like the Remus system that is on the new one we got for my wife. Now it you look at BR's exhaust in his avatar you will see the build up of soot I am talking about. This one is clean as a whistle, I mean you can wipe your finger in there and no soot, so I know it is running very lean.

Anxious to see how your PCIII smooths things out. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. 2004, with everything stock except Erion Racing exhaust and I think she runs smooth as silk. And yeah, I've got black soot in my pipes, it defininately doesn't run lean...

If you are wanting a stock exhaust and my 2004 will fit, I still have it and it's just taking up space in my storage unit. Let me know if you want it and what you think it is worth to you. And....we should ride!

Thanks Steve. I got one of the weird ones this time. All the bikes I own have black soot coming out the exhaust. Even if the boot up procedure helps with how it runs I will throw on the PCIII just because it is running so lean. This coming spring I should have all the mods and stuff done to both bikes. Then, we will be ready to ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could someone explain how, or point me to the thread, where it explains what this delayed start thingy does please? My 08 model is a little jerky/lumpy at lows revs. All stock except for O2 elims, SV's balanced, so I'm considering a PCIII but I'm not convinced it's serious enough to splash out all those $$$.
