Minor fairing damage what to do

Honestly, save your money on fixing it. Murphy's Law will certainly force you to drop it once it's been fixed... Touch up paint for now, and then have them professionally painted before you sell it...if ever.

+1. Looking at that particular damage, its probably a parking lot tip over, but I'm guessing there were bags on it at the time. (Don't ask where I've seen this before...)

That's nothing. You got a discount for those crstches, I presume, so just leave them as is and now you won't be afraid to drop the bike on the righth side. Mine looks the same and it seems to always fall on the right side. So I leave the scars in place and don't worry so much if i add a scratch or two.

Yea, they were initially asking $6700 for the bike at the end of Summer last year, then were asking $5500, but I got it for $5000 CND. Picking up in spring.

Sand it and paint it if it bothers you that much. But I would wait until you are pretty comfortable with hefting this thing around first. And get some frame sliders on there before you pait it as well. Worked for me. :happy:

Yea, gonna get frame sliders very soon after I get it. I might get the dealer to install them, so when I pick it up in the spring my ass is covered.

Could you post a pic of the carbon stickers you used and maybe a pic of your bike with them on it?

I'm picking this bike (04 VFR800 ABS) up in the spring and was wondering what you folks would do with the minor fairing damage? I was thinking tasteful decals/wrap would do it.

it doesnt look that noticable in the pics really. could be worse like red with the grey showing underneath.

I agree about leaving it as is...I have the asphalt black too and it hides alot.  I stupidly had mine repainted for some minor tip over rash and proceeded to tip it over again in short order.

you should see the bike I just got......lightly road rashed on both sides....

suggested to my brother I would fix it over the winter, he said "....why bother, with your luck you'd probably drop the thing the next day." Thanks bro

.....but in hindsight hes right. It aint worth the effort/expense to return it to as new. And if it looks a little worn in, I suspect I will worry less about it when I leave it parked downtown....at least I wont sweat a few new scuffs...

Try www.hexis-graphics.com they manufacture all types of exterior automotive peel and stick and other vinyl materials. The one I liked is a realy nice line of carbon fiber look alike material. They will send you a free 8 x10 inch sample if you call them on their toll free line ..ask for Keri Corse.

Color-Rite works fine for touch-ups, nowhere near perfect but it's probably the best cost/improvement ratio out there.

Painting entire panels can work but there is usually issues with matching color with other panels; painting every single panel (to ensure proper match) should cost as much if not more than buying the two replacement lower and upper cowls new from Honda.

Definitely go with frame sliders, for sure they will pay for themselves at some point, if only to provide you with peace of mind when leaving the bike parked in the town. I found my bike laying on its side once, I can only imagine some idiot driver backed into it, there was not a scratch to be found on the cowls. Frame sliders really do work and properly installed they look like Mr. Honda put them on himself.

More importantly, you can't see the scratches when you're riding!

I might just leave it or slap a couple stickers on it for this season and fix it properly over the winter. Anyone with med-large stickers they don't want anymore?
