was a close call between a blackbird and the vfr, as soon as I heard the V4 and the singing gears I was sold
can't wait for the weather to get a bit warmer, it's just snow and ice out there

the gas cap and handle bar weights are getting chrome coated right now, and the seat is getting restored

The day I bought her has been the coldest day of the last 13 years, -27°C (-16.6°F). Really struggled getting her on the trailer, hands got numb after a few minutes.

Interesting color. Honda definitely made white RC36-Is (tecnhically RC35s) and white RC46-Is (technically RC49s), but I had not known of any RC35-IIs having been made in police-spec. Looks "factory", though.

It's a paintjob done by PO, not a pristine paintjob, has quite some flaws, especially on the lower fairing.

There are some regulations that stability parts, such as frame, wheels and break levers/pedals are not allowed to get chrome coated, because they get brittle and might break.
At least in Austria there are laws like this.

Just waiting for next week to get good prices at the Michelin Pilot Road 3s, think they will do good on front and rear.
Braided hoses need to be delivered aswell, and I bought the original windshield for and seat cowl for daily driver purposes both under 40€.-
The seat cowl comes in black, I hope the Painter can match the color to the bike.
I also ordered matching white turning signals, but unfortunately they sent me black, street illegal ones. Won't look good on a white VFR, now I'm waiting for the white ones to arrive.
I better like riding this bike. :happy:
Got the stock windshield and seat cowl last week, mounted it up today, together with new white turning signals.
the black seat cowl does look really good, as do the turning lights. I really like the look of it now.

However if it were my bike I'd want to paint the seat cowl white to match the rest of the bodywork. It shouldn't be all that hard to find a matching paint and to me the black cowl doesn't integrate well with the color and texture of the seat. I feel the bike would look better and would have a more seamless appearance w/o the (black) cowl installed
Some carefully-applied coats of high-gloss "pure white" from a spray can could be all you need.

Installing steel braided hoses for Clutch and both brakes today, changed braking pads yesterday and got new Pilot Road 3s aswell. 285€ seems a good enough deal for the rubbers.
Could do an oil change aswell when I'm at it.
Then she'll be ready to ride.
I think I'll get the seat cowl painted too, as smoothsailin suggested, white would look way better.

Gonna try to paint the seat cowl today on my own, as suggested from smoothsailin. I think white would be the only choice for the seat cowl.
Also gonna repaint the NACA ducts with non gloss black, since the color starts to peel off. PO did a pretty poor paintjob on them.
Will upload some pics from the steel braided hoses when I'm done painting.
New oil+filter has been added aswell. The old oil was smelling burned, with minor white slime on the oil cap. PO obviously didn't change oil for more than 2 years or he did never ride trips longer than 50km.
Just wanted to let you know that I'm absolutely in love with this bike, can't get off her, taking unnecessary long ways round before riding home, did ride 300kms yesterday.
The bike sounds awesome especially around 4k rpms, although a bit more quiet than I want her to be. Last week I got an offer for a Devil High up for 100€. It's one of those Street illegal ones without the ABE (Vehicle type approval).
Need to check what cruel things local police would do to me if they catch me with such a thing.
Anyone got experience with this one? I already contacted Devil, but didn't get an answer yet.
Tried to find some aftermarket pipes on ebay, there are some Takkoni and IXIL pipes around, don't know those companies.
The seat cowl should be finished this week.
Don't know what Ze Auztrian Polize would do with you if they caught you with an evil device like that, but over here, I've never been bothered. The Vfr has a more "bass" exhaust note as compared to an inline-4 600 for example, so even non-motorcyclists are not as bothered by it. And it's nowhere near as ear bleeding as a straight-piped Harley.
If he cops DO bust you, it's probably because you are exercising your right wrist first, and they give you a ticket for the exhaust while they already have you pulled over for speeding.

It'll quieten things down a lot for a while if you don't give it a fist-full, the it'll blow out when you open it up later.

Appreciate your information. Did a little research, if they catch me with a street illegal pipe I could get a ticket and have to pay 25€ if I'm lucky. If the cop is in a bad mood he could let me drive to the MOT guys to check my exhaust. If i put the original one on the bike before going there I'm all fine. In germany they could dismount your exhaust and keep it as evidence.
Don't think it's worth the trouble.

From what I can tell the PR3s are excellent tires.
Plenty of grip, probably more than you'll ever need on public roads, they warm up pretty quick too.
Don't know if it's the bike or the tires, but I can feel the road.
Wanted to share some pictures I took today. Went for a ride around the local lake, after 3 days of rain.
I really need to force myself to stop and take some pictures, riding the VFR is just too much of a joy.
Got nearly 2500km under my belt since I bought her, it's like flying on a V4 cloud.
Still indecisive about buying an exhaust, since the stock one is really quiet.
Especially if I'm riding her in town and another bike is passing me, it's just roaring and brutal loud compared to the VFR.
Well each to his own, but to me, the exact same aftermsrket muffler on a VFR sounds more pleasing to me than it does on an inline-4.
The inlines have a high pitched shriek, which is annoying, but the v4 has a more low pitched growl, which i think is much nicer, and probably less annoying to outsiders due to the tone, it's not a grating shriek.
You can also use a DB killer to tone it down a bit more, and E-mark mufflers are supposed to be quieter anyhow than race baffles I think.
Just checked ebay, there are exhausts from cobra, motad, a remus without a db eater and an ixil shorty, all street legal.
They're all 300€+
How does the shape of an exhaust behave in terms of sound?
From what I know long exhausts have a deeper note than short ones, is that true?
Ixil has the reputation of D&D's......... very loud.
not sure if Austria, like Germany have TuV with requirement that ANY modification must be entered into your papers/have a form that shows that the parts are TuV approved for your bike.
the akra on my 4th Gen has the E-stamps and all that, but should I ever get stopped in Germany and Herr Komissar has a bad hair day, he will demand the proof that the exhaust is aproved for my bike. Which it isn't it is for a GSXR 600 or 750......
From what I know the exhaust needs to be approved for the bike. Guess you will get in trouble with that kind of exhaust in austria aswell. :tongue:
Hard to judge an exhaust by camera sound alone, I just want a deep, bass heavy tone. Nothing too raspy/shreaky, nothing too loud.
The stock pipe is really quiet, can't hear the engine above 70km/h
This season was a short one.
I am currently recovering from an accident I had on April 12th.
Can't remember any details how or why I crashed but I am lucky for still being able to walk.
According to police I came off the straight road at about 50km/h and tried to devastate a traffic sign with my spine.
It was a nice day, blue sky and warm weather, did ride for nearly 300km that day and somehow managed to crash on the way home.
As I woke up in hospital the nurse and doctor asked me if I could move my arms and legs. At this point I knew it was a close call.
After one week in hospital the doc told me I needed a spinal surgery because my spine got deformed in the accident.
Now I can walk again and hope the season's going well for all of you guys out there.
The VFR is in a bad condition, although not as bad as I thought it would be.
After having the joy of experiencing the V4 for about 3000kms I think I want to rebuild her and continue riding bikes as a hobby, even if a spinal injury isn't an easy one to recover from.
Have some pictures and always remember to wear your gear.
Oh boy indeed! Spines are definately not made to snap steel poles in half. I am glad you came out relatively OK :fing02:
Heal up and get the bike ready for next year :tour:
