My Girl Went in for Cosmetic Surgery - Body and Paint - VFR Discussion - Page 2

Back in 2004 when I picked up my 98 with a little over 4k miles on her I fell hard for her beautiful lines and that cool looking SSSA.  I have always owned Interceptors, my first being a 1984 VF500F, brand new from the dealer.  My freshman year in college a bike mag ran an article about the 83 VF750F and I was hooked.  A couple of years later I moved up to an '85 VF700.  Then in 1990, I got ahold of a used 86 VFR700 and thought I'd scored!  Later that year, some trick little number HONDA dreamed up appeared at a showroom near me,  The rest, I guess, is history.

Bit by bit I modified my 98 and this is what it looked like when I brought it home.

I then made another mod:

All leading up to this.  I've been working towards this for about 6 years.  I don't have $20K laying around to find the real art, so I improvised.

It came out better than I ever expected.
All of the colors are OEM formulas, except for the Wistaria Blue, that was a direct color match at the shop.  Even the gold is a match to the OEM decals.

All told, I think I have over 100 hours in prep, stripe, paint, tape off, rinse and repeat.  There are 6 coats of clear over the Pearl White, and 4 on all the rest.  That decal company on Malta supplied the decals, and custom fab'd some for me as well.

I'm having an OEM fuel line cut into two with a set of quick disconnect fittings installed.  I'll need that soon as my EBD is finishing up his work on my spare motor.

I can't wait for the weather to break so I can sneak out and around the town.

Looks very nice. If it were mine, I think I would have rotated the striping clockwise when viewed from the right side so that it followed the body lines more, but that's just me.

Can't wait to see how your engine turns out!!! Dyno before and after the engine swap???

Yes, I believe I got the idea from the Connie.  These are clear aftermarket housings.  I had to mod the plug area to fit our connector.

And yes, a bunch of sanding, prep and sand some more.  What I did not expect (well, 5+ years of parts laying around...) is that the OEM plastic relaxed over time and the first fitment was a bear.  Once I got it all together, things lined up just spot on.

Racing season is upon us which means the EBD is in full triage mode.  I'll probably hear from him sometime during the summer.  I'm in no hurry as I want to keep dialing in the PCV now that I have all functions working properly.  Once I do that, I'll drop in the jumbo K&N moded filter and see what that does.....
