A day in the Dales

The Ribblehead road from Ingleton to Hawes is pretty unbeatable on a day like today.

It was glorious today and I managed another 120 miles bringing the total up to 420. I remembered the camera too :)

The bike continues to impress. The smallish tank is only an issue because this bike has such long legs (and the fuel gauge stays at max then goes from full to nothing in not a lot of miles). I got 36mpg (UK) out of the last tank of 98 octane and expect more once it's loosened up a bit. The comfort is great too with the new seat and there's not too much weight on the wrists either, better than my 1050ST Sprint.

I can definitely notice the torque dip in 1st and 2nd, just where you'd expect it. I won't fit the Bazzaz until after the 600 mile service.

Yes North and East of Lancaster. It's actually Yorkshire and some Yorkies would splutter at the use of the word Lancaster in relation to the Dales. The War of the Roses isn't forgotten entirely :)

The Dales are great motorcycling territory, especially midweek when it's quieter.

The War of the Roses was back in the mid 1400's ? And they say we need to forget the war between the States over here mid 1800's.

Hello from over here Peter...thanks so much for the lovely photos.  Makes me long for a trip back to Scotland.  I lived there (Aberdeen) as a teenager for about a year and a half.  Your bike isn't half bad either...LOL!

It's days like yesterday, 'big sky' days, that make life worth living :)

I'd recommend Scotland too, I'm off to Sutherland in May.

I remember the border sign when I was riding back to England from Scotland(late 60's) said "Haste Ye back to Scotland" , Yes it's a fun place to ride.

Great photos man. I love the scenery as much as the white paint.

If you like the white lines you'd love the "Cat-eyes" on not only the centre line, but the edge of the road as well. You can see your turns at night before you can see the pavement....... They need to do that here.

Nice pics m8, and very nice roads too. Was up that way last year; had lunch at the Manor Cafe after visitng the Alt-berg factory.

The roads don't seem too bad to be honest, the occasional shallow hole where the top layer has gone.

I was lucky enough to see the steam train from the Dent road a few years beck. I love seeing it bustle along :)

Looks like a great ride and lunch spot. My spouse's family lives in Hull I'd like to make my way all over the UK on roads like that.

Sadly roads like this don't exist all over :)

But, there's still some great roads. Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Trough of Bowland, Hardknott and Wrynose Passes, The Borders, The Highlands, Exmoor, Dartmoor etc .....

And the Dolomitten aren't so far away either :)

Very nice pics. I've only viited the south east once and loved the scenery. I hope to do  longer trip around the island and visit The Dales too someday.

I thought exactly the same thing on viewing that photo :)

Wow nice pictures, brings back some great memories, I grew up in and around Leeds and used to head out to dales whenever I could, hiked the three peaks etc. just wish I'd have ridden a bike while living there now.

We got out yesterday and for a change headed into home territory, The Lakes. Nearly all of our day trips are to the Dales and Yorkshire.

It's easy to forget how beautiful it is here. The roads aren't as quick perhaps but the Coniston to Broughton in Furness road is a switchback favourite.

I had the Bazzaz fitted yesterday and riding at a fairly gentle pace it was noticeable in a 'now the bike feels more normal' sort of a way. Riding on slow and gnarly back roads wasn't an issue at all with the lack of 'traction control', far from it.

I had one road rage cager nearly take me out but after a park up and calm down I didn't let it spoil my day.
