My 2005 has been dying while rolling to a stop, usually when I'm shifting down between 2nd and 1st and only (it seems) when Iwater temp is above 200 degrees. It's pretty random, and it always fires right back up with a quick blip if the starter button.
Pretty annoying. Anybody else experience this or know a cause/fix?
Mine did that too with my original RR. I changed it after experinecing it about three times and seeing the constant low voltage reading on my volt meter and it never happened again....Wecome to the frustrating world of Honda VFR RR troubles!
To adjust the idle you turn a small black plastic knob that is located near the top of the right side engine cover that just barely sticks out from behind the right side fairing. If I remember right you turn the knob clockwise to increase idle RPM. When you adjust idle make sure you do it after the engine is fully warmed up.
Idle should be 1200rpm min, it could be electrical so first point of call is bike running test voltage at battery terminals, do a search the info for that check is onsite. Secondly if you haven't had starter valves balanced in a while have it done as effects idle low revs, doesn't effect high revs.
Mine did that on the 1st longish ride (new bike). Coming up to an intersection, pulled the clutch in & stalled. Started right up & has done it maybe a couple of times. I turned up the idle & its been OK ever since. I'll just put it down to the character of the VFR.
+whatever for bumping up the idle. Per the owner's manual (Page 126 for 2007), it should be 1200±100 RPM. Set it when the engine is warm. Page 125 has a nice pic showing the lcoation of the idle screw.
Do you need to remove the fairing to do this? Or release the cable from it's clip?
I just tried this in the parking lot, the knob didn't want to turn...but I wasn't trying very hard either.
Had the same thing happened to me.
As others have said, it was the first indication of electrical gremlins.
Check your charging system: R/R, Stator, connections.

No fairing removal needed, though popping the screw mechanism out of the little wire clip that holds it in place may make it easier. I usually hold the knurled part by hand, then use a Philips screwdriver to turn the screw at the end.

Just went out and gave it another try, managed to do it with just my fingers.
We'll see if things are improved on the ride home tonight. :tour:
Next move will also be the voltage test that zRoyz suggested. :smile:
My bike did that before the regulator/rectifier and stator all died and fried. That was the warning sign. I just thought it was a freak thing. Check and see if your battery is recharging itself and you'll know right away if that is the issue.
