My right mirror does not like to fold. I have to apply a lot of force to get the mirror to fold in.
I understand how to remove the mirror from the bike, but does the stem separate from the base? It seems that it is overtightened or corroded inside the hinge and causing the problem.
Thoughts?
The stem does separate from the base. You need to pop the plastic cover off the attachment pivot, take the internals apart, clean with WD40 and reassemble. Make sure that you remember how it goes back together.
I agree with Rice, however, you may just be able to loosen the hex bolt a slight bit. I need to slightly tighten mine occasionally. I have not had to disassemble them. Yet...
Yes, I would take the whole thing apart to make sure it is not to corroded and reinstall it with proper tension in the screw so it moves easier. Make sure you do not tighten it up too much because it may cause hairline cracks in your fairing when you move the mirror.

OK, I took the mirror apart yesterday. The washers were not corroded, but the locktite on the bolt seeped onto the washers, and it was causing the mirror to not move freely. I cleaned the threads, washers, and then reassembled, and all is well.
For reference, the two hex bolts holding the mirrror to the fairing are 5mm, and the bolt that goes through the mirror stem and base is 6mm.
