Another Leo Vince question

I've found several threads on the Leo Vince pipes but not a conclusive answer as to sound quality differences between the aluminum and carbon fiber cans. I'm looking to put a set on my black '06 and am wondering if anyone who has or has heard either can tell me if there is any significant difference in tone between the two. Also, are the cf any lighter or about the same as the aluminum?

I'm liking the look of the cf for the black bike but not sure if they're worth the extra $200. Also haven't found many black bikes with the cf cans in my image searches. I'm also looking to powder coat the rims and rearset a flat black like the '09 models but wonder if that might be overkill combined with the cf cans.

Any opinions or pics?

It really is just what look your going for.  The CF cans might come in 1 lbs lighter, not sure if that matters on a VFR.  As far as sound goes, I would say the same.  I have the aluminum cans on mine, plenty loud with the restrictors out

Thanks for the reply! I'm not looking for REALLY loud...just a better and deeper tone than the stockers, which I'm sure I'll get from either the aluminum or CF. I have heard that the CF have a deeper tone than the aluminum. Have you heard both?

I travel a lot on the VFR and imagine I would be putting in the restrictors on the longer multi day rides and leaving them out around town or short day trips.

I really am on the fence about the looks...they both look great...maybe one of each... :idea3:

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, been busy. One thing to keep in mind with the CF vs Alum, is that LV does not do a great job of sealing the CF. After three years of hard use, my friends CF Leo's needed to be taken apart and re-clear coated. In the long run, the Alum cans might be less maintenance. YMMV however.

I have the alloy leo & have compared sound with the CF, in all honesty there isn't much difference except you get more of an echo type sound from the alloy & more refined muffle from the CF but it really is chalk & cheese. You get a much more V8 type echo sound from stainless cans than the alloy. What you do have to be careful of is allot of advertised CF cans these days are just a wrap over another metal but the leo are true CF from what I understand.

I doubt you will notice much of a difference between carbon fiber cans and aluminum cans. The muffler internals are the same.

I had a Remus Hexacone on my BMW, and that was titanium with carbon end caps, and after the first year the carbon started to fade. This is normal for carbon fiber to discolor when hot, so I would avoid it for an exhaust.

I will likely be going with the aluminum set which I have found online for $540.99. Seems like a great deal considering my Remus was $800 for only one pipe!
