Paint

Hi.  So, I normally buy used bikes that have been rashed for a bargain price.  I have a friend do his best to repair the bodywork and match the paint.  It rarely - if ever - matches perfectly.  My Italian Red 2004 VFR is a good example. Italian Red is difficult to match, I guess.

The problem is, I love my 2004 VFR.  I do not intend to sell it, so the mismatched paint on the front cowl and right fairing is bugging me. Although it shouldn't matter to me, I hate it when some jerk on a Harley volunteers that the VFR has mismatched panels!  Thanks, all of you, for stating the obvious!

So, I am painting it!

The question is, should I repaint the VFR stock or should I go with a different scheme.  I am leaning toward stock, but I see a lot of cool options at Cutting Edge Illusions in Eugene, OR . . .

I'm torn about that too, but with my Duc. She has a few noticeable nicks and scratches and really needs a refresh. I want to keep the Ducati Red, for obvious reasons but I kind of like to see it with red frame and wheels with white tank/body panels...I've seen a few white VFR's that really look awesome, and i thought the Duc would too. I like my all black VFR a lot though. Besides, the VFR is still too new to make over IMO. I'm still making payments on it.

Check out some of the member gallery pictures and see if anything strikes your fancy. Not sure how many VFRs there are in Alaska, but even in CA, I don't see very many that often, so any paint scheme might seem unique. That being said, the only person you need to please is yourself.

I was thinking a lion head on the front, you know, like, eating the headlight... wait... is that not cool anymore? :huh:
I suggest look at some other bikes for a scheme you like, not just VFRs, you will probably find something you like. BUT, if it looks good on another bike, doesn't mean it will look good on a VFR, have someone help with the photoshop work is the easiest.

I've always found the stock silver flake on my 05 a little ostentacious...that said...I've been thinking that if i do pick up a newer low mileage 6th generation when my bike croses 100k in a month or two I might paint the 05 a pale tangerine with just a hint of small flake.  For some reason I think it would look great with the 6th generation lines.

I must have read Tom Wolff at an impressionalble age.

Orange with black wheels, frame.  I think there was a member with a fourth gen (I think) that was painted like that.  Pretty cool.  Actually looked like something a factory might do.

I'm not a fan of flames or over the top graphics like lions.  I do like quality colors, like that new blue BMW is using on its S1000R sport bike.

Alaskan, you might want to consider repainting her in the "Oreo" paint scheme. My favorite on the Vtec model.

Veefer, I really like the two-color scheme in the pic.  That looks great with the matching wheels.

Yep, that be one of the white versions I like! The matching wheels do make the look for me.

Personally, I'm really fond of the RC30 scheme I saw on another 6th gen, but I think you could change it up so that it kept the pattern, but changed up the colors.  The base scheme has two shades of blue, white and red.  I've thought that I would like to redo mine with black and dark silver replacing the two shades of blue, and use the 07 red color instead of italian racing red.  I just can settle on what to do with the white, maybe the 05 silver?  I'm not great with photoshop, but I have heard from those who are wise that it is best to mock it up electronically before you commit to paint.
